Poll Question: Ancient Behemoth Special
It sucks so very much. A hulking beast jumping across the battlefield just look ridiculous For me the whole appeal of the behemoth was that it looked like a monstrous beast whose massive claws tore through everything. The original version was bad@ss, then it made an unfortunate transition into a gorilla thing which sucked. It did not look terrifying anymore. Then H7 comes and while it gets the looks mostly fine(upgrade like most H7 upgrades still sucks, what's up with that nose?), it tries to immitate a gorilla again. The way it strikes the ground when idle, the silly jump.. Why not have it use the claws for maximum carnage factor??
I want your opinion regarding the jumping ability. Not how balanced it is but how you feel about it, on that specific unit. Personally I'd much rather see the kappa with such an ability and the behemoth with a more.. grounded one. This poll is not meant as a campaign to change anything, just to see how many feel this way.

I agree with you but if Limbics view is that behemoth = big beer belly gorilla/yeti(on desert faction), there just isn't much to be done...

I think the new Behemoth, in terms of design, looks way better than the one in H3. You said you liked the big brutal monster feel it had? I personally think it have the same, if not slightly different and more omnivore-ish. In anycase I see the new design as perfect for what I believe the Behemoth should be; A giant tank of a monster.

The looks are fine like I said. I am arguing about the gorilla feel of certain animations and the leaping attack.

I don't think the behemoth was ever really a great idea for a creature tbh, it's really generic and ill-defined mythologically, but of course Ubilimb would bring it back to Ashanize it for that very reason lol

I think it is quite obvious that the only reason the behemoth has the animations and ability are because it is another recycled asset. I do not like the leap ability not just because it does not fit the creature at all but also because it is lazy.

I can't see another reason for adding such an out of place ability, they also look awfully similar to me. I cannot test my theory though as I do not have H7.

I voted it sucks.
Kinda agree with gryphs here. Laziness. its the same h6 kappa ability just on a bigger creature. I'd rather buff the claws to reduce 70 or 80 than have this.
Just went over their look but yea upgrade looks silly, brown one I like. And if it would just stand upright and not have the stance of an ape, it wouldn't look so much like on and more like a behemoth.
But yea even if the ability doesn't get changed, a proper animation should be given.

I agree that jumping just doesn't fit the Behemoth. I could maaaybe see him hitting the ground to create earthquakes, damaging everything on the battlefield. But that would've been hard to balance. And would've probably also looked somewhat forced.
Behemoths' problem seems to be that the immigrants from wizard towns Cyclops took their jobs as Stronghold's slow high level heavy melee hitters. They wouldn't give you a choice between two bulky tanks, so either Behemoths or Cyclops had to look for a different job. Imo, a natural thing to do would've been to return Cyclops to their previous job as Rock Throwers or perhaps give them more of a supportive role and have them cast debuffs with their laser (swords) or to degrade the Cyclops and give the Behemoths some other competitors. Either that or throwing one of them out of Stronghold lineup.

Or do like in H3 where the Behemoth is the offensive heavy hitter with low defense, but high health, so it can take spells, but can't take being ganged up on. Then the cyclopses could be the opposite, the defensive variant, perhaps with unlimited retal and enhanced defense, or similar.

I think if you're going to go with a Gorilla model, THEN the Mighty Pounce ability suits it. It's a satisfying ability to gain on upgrade and does help to differentiate the unit.
The player in this gameplay video was pretty excited;
