Post your 5-10 favorite musical artists/bands

For your 5 favorites. Let's stick with mid-20th century and onward, though if you want to post some of your favorite classics on the side you can go for it.

i'm a fan of many different albums and styles of music, but if i were to go by who put out the most stuff that i like(judging by my music collection):

marilyn manson
nine inch nails
icp
white/rob zombie
danzig
the doors
nirvana
primus
w.a. mozart
danzig

if i were to go by genre, the list would be different.

Tried to establish them according to the timeline ('85-'15)

Pendulum very very very nearly misses out on the list. So should Papa Roach.

It's hard to gauge my favorite bands, I'm still young and immature and my tastes change like a nightingale.

But even without batting an eyelid I would say the first one is my favorite band ever.

Totally sucks about Bowie. Far too young. I like his music a lot too.

I think he and Lemmy dying are the first instances when I really felt bad about a celebrity's death in my short lifespan. More for David Bowie though.

Yeah, sucks.

Labyrinth was one of my most treasured films growing up, and with him it. The fact that an icon of my childhood is dead all of the sudden is like... void feeling inside. Artists of the British Invasion era are getting pummeled. I never listened to Motorhead much myself.

Celebrity deaths generally never bother me.

@ bb and dd: i was hit pretty hard when kurt cobain died, in my teens. after him, marilyn manson was there to fill the gap left behind.

i still can't believe bowie died so soon. he's one of those people you just couldn't imagine actually dying. i figured he'd outlive me by a longshot.

lol. Fred. You're going to be one of those people that think they'll be dead before they're 40, and 70 years from now you're going to be a 100-year-old dude with a massive beard and a bird nest in his hair that plays the guitar at the town square. And your shirt is going to be that horrible color of green.

Not for me. I would do injustice to a ton of others.

I also feel, that the "artists" question is too unspecific. The Rolling Stones, for example, are around for over 50 years now, and although they have come up with the occasional new song or even record, you can pinpoint their really brilliant work to a certain period.
However, there are exceptions to this rule. Motörhead, for example, has been around for 40 years, made records all over, and delivered some of their best work LATE (but generally featured quite strong throughout the whole time).

The Beatles, on the other hand - or, since I read that name, the Doors, or for me, too, Jimi Hendrix -, were active only for a comparatively short time, still made quite an impact, featuring only a handful of original records. I can safely say, that I listen to a lot more Hendrix and Doors than Beatles, still there is a lot of Beatles stuff that is fantastic, and starting to listen means something like falling into a Beatlesque musical universe where you could listen to them hours and hours.

I take them as they come, rather adoring specific work.

For example, I think the Pixies would have to feature high on my list of artists for their specific sound and song structures, Surfer Rosa, being nothing short of a master peace.
Nirvana and Cobain only wanting to write songs as good as the Pixies, certainly making it with Nevermind - but I would never feature them anywhere because of one album, instead I would feature the album quite high (yeah, yeah, they are somewhat more than that, but generally before and after Nevermind I think Nirvana has been hampered too much by other "outside" things - you can easily compare the Cobain/Grohl partnership with McCartney and Lennon, Grohl with the Foo Fighters missing a tad of "punch", while Cobain being too, well, unhappy.

Anyway. Not possible.
