Doubt about specialties heroes in HOMM III
Hi guys, I have a doubt: what does it mean that an heroes "receive a 5% per level bonus to a particular skill"?
For example, for Crag Hack, specialty offense, what does it mean? I'm not english so maybe I can't understand the sentence. When he level up, his offense receive a 5%? I don't think so, since it will become unstoppable.

It's an extra 5% of the skill bonus (not a clear +5%).
For expert offense, that means 5% * 30% = 1.5% bonus per level
ex.
Level 1 ... 30% + 1*1.5% = 31.5%
Level 20... 30% + 20*1.5% = 60%

Basically, what RoseKavalier wrote is correct. The corresponding skill receives a 5% bonus to it for each level of the Hero.
To take RoseKavalier's example of Offense, any Hero with Expert Offense gains 30% bonus damage for melee attacks. This is the same as saying this:
Total Bonus = 30% x benefit.
Normally, a Hero receives 100% benefit from a skill (rather obviously ), so we could also write that as:
Total Bonus = 30% x 100% = 30%.
The reason to make this explicit is because the benefit is higher than 100% for Heroes with a Specialty in that particular skill. For instance, Crag Hack has a specialty in Offense, so for him the formula for Expert Offense is actually this:
Total Bonus = 30% x (100% + 5% x Level)
Making the list depending on level then yields:
Level 1: Total Bonus = 30% x 105% = 31.5%
Level 2: Total Bonus = 30% x 110% = 33%
Level 3: Total Bonus = 30% x 115% = 34.5%
...
Level 20: Total Bonus = 30% x 200% = 60%
Etcetera.
But it works on all skill levels. For instance, Basic Offense just gives a 10% bonus, so for a Hero with Basic Offense and the Offense Specialty, the table would be as follows:
Level 1: Total Bonus = 10% x 105% = 10.5%
Level 2: Total Bonus = 10% x 110% = 11%
Level 3: Total Bonus = 10% x 115% = 11.5%
...
Level 20: Total Bonus = 10% x 200% = 20%
Etcetera.
Lord Haart (the Human version, not the Undead version) has an Estates Specialty. So with every level, his Estates skill yields more and more money. At Expert level, Estates yields 500 Gold. In table form for Lord Haart, we then get the following as he progresses through the levels:
Level 1: Total Bonus = 500 Gold x 105% = 525 Gold
Level 2: Total Bonus = 500 Gold x 110% = 550 Gold
Level 3: Total Bonus = 500 Gold x 115% = 575 Gold
...
Level 20: Total Bonus = 500 Gold x 200% = 1000 Gold
Etcetera.
