Rebuilding A Map...
Hello, everyone!
I'm looking for a few hints (or perhaps even some help) in the re-construction of a Heroes III map for Heroes V. My ideal aim would be to replicate the map perfectly, except that this is not meaningfully possible as there are too many things in Heroes V that are different. So, I'm going to try and come as close as I can without going overboard.
That said, I'll have a few challenges, one of them being that the Heroes V Editor strikes me as weird. So this leads me to a few questions...
1. Has there been anything someone has developed to this point that would be able to read at least the terrain from a Heroes III map and generate a Heroes V clone out of it?
2. How do I get the Editor's main map, the minimap, the tool panels, and other things, in SEPARATE windows instead of being part of all the SAME window in different subwindows? This makes it extremely difficult to accomplish anything.
3. How do I actually click on an item to read the data for it? The editor seems to stick to your last selection like glue, and then any attempt to click on stuff just places even more stuff on the map...
4. Does the main map actually have a scroll bar somewhere? I need to use the arrow keys on my keyboard to move it around, which I don't find ideal.
5. I'm going to be removing certain items and spells from the game (for example Angel Wings, Town Portal, Summon Creatures, and D-Door, none of which have a place in a Heroes game...). The options for items and spells have a bunch of check marks, none of which are initially checked. Does this mean that if I want something removed, I should check it off?
6. Regarding the Vessel of Shalahassa - what is its range and how exactly does it work? The original map for which I am duplicating originally severely depended on the use of Summon Boat and the *ownership* of shipyards in order to produce and teleport boats at will, because there is a considerable amount of ocean on the map, with various interior lakes. If it all means that I have to place shipyards everywhere, so be it...but if not, I'd like to avoid that.
7. While I can probably manage, are there any volunteers for engaging in the terrain design with me for this map? My artistic design is and has always been quite awful, and if I could get some help on just this one thing, it would make a SUPER big difference...
I'll add here that half my problem is that I can't even figure out how to add terrain properly. I started out by making everything water (since it's a water-based map), then I click on grass to put grass in certain places, but nothing whatsoever happens. I don't get it. :/
On top of that, I clicked something and all the terrain turned red, indicating something else, but I don't know what, and I can't see what I'm doing now...this editor is confusing!
8. Is there any way to make combat stockpiles never regenerate their stockpiles or the defenders?
Anyways, these are my queries. Would greatly appreciate what help you all can give. Thank you!
Take care,
