Elvis Presley - Bossa Nova Baby (Remix) on old dance scene from Fred Astaire & Rita Hayworth
I guess, nothing can get more American than this.

i don't think elvis's music encapsulates what it is to be american, any more than bruce springsteen's does(which is, hardly at all). to me, it doesn't get any more american than ac/dc. i don't care if they're from australia originally; for me, ac/dc is an american band, right down to the bone. their music is as "american spirit" as it gets.
lol, i'm claiming ac/dc for the u.s.
*puts a flag in ac/dc*

That golden age of Hollywood dance + rock 'n' roll combo is much more representitive of your culture globally, than AC/DC can ever get. Especially, if you don't narrow it down with the Rock scene. AC/DC is a very latter and genre-specific band where as Presley is at the core both chronologically and as a cultural icon. AC/DC gives you a feeling that you associate with being an American, that's something else.

lol, just when i think you can't surprise me anymore, you go and say something like that...
i've never heard of a non-national claiming that they know what's more representative of another nation musically; than an actual national. that's astoundingly egotistical of you, artu.
you know, i keep getting this impression that you actually believe you know everything. or at least, most things. you must be quite the fun guy to be around.

Hey, don't trust me, go make a little poll among your fellow nationals from all circles and generations about which is more representitive of their culture, Elvis or AC/DC, it's really a no-brainer, fred.
I like Highway to Hell, too. Catchy road song, especially at night.

it's not that i don't trust you, artu; it's just that you're absolutely wrong. i'm talking about the spirit of the u.s., represented musically. NO type of music represents the u.s. spiritually, like rock and roll does. and NO band represents rock and roll BETTER, than ac/dc.

You just "feel" like that because your personal taste is more leaning towards post 60's. (Dont be sad, we all have are flaws.) Yet, I'm not even going to debate that some post-glam era band represents rock n roll better than the guy called King of Rock n' Roll. To be frank, I'd give the title to Chuck Berry, anyway.

wrong again, artu. you seem to have a habit of being wrong, despite reading so much. weird.
now, if you were to say that chuck berry was the GODFATHER of rock and roll, i'd agree with you(just like james brown is the godfather of soul). but chuck berry, as great a man as he was, is no longer the king of rock and roll; he hasn't been for decades. ac/dc took that mantle, and nobody else as of yet, has claimed it for themselves.
think about it like this: exactly how many songs did elvis perform, that could be considered strictly rock and roll? now, how about ac/dc? are you getting what i'm saying here? because this is really a no-brainer, artu.
if you don't get what i'm saying, don't be sad. we all have our flaws. yours is usually "understanding".

Actually, in the 50's, most of what Elvis did was Rock n Roll and that alone is probably more in quantity compared to AC/DC because people used to put out records like crazy back in those days. But it's not a matter of quantity anyway. What you're saying is like Oasis is more Beatles than the Beatles because they record more, which is "understandable" considering you took too much acid and fried your brains out at last.
But seriously dude, I like AC/DC, unlike many hard rock bands, they do get the spirit of rock n roll and they have this "last of the Mohicans" vibe to them because of that. But Elvis was the Big Chief. (I personally value Berry more because he wrote his own stuff and it was for the first time, lyrics were something other than "yeah baby, roll baby" in that genre.)

well, agree to disagree, then.
and, you're dreadfully wrong. just like always, lol.
btw, artu; you really should take some acid. i mean this honestly and good-naturedly. it might help you to better understand things. it seems like you have a mental block on a lot of knowledge due to having your nose in a book or whatever(more than is really healthy, tbh), and i think it'd be just the thing for you. as long as you didn't try to over-think what you were going through; not sure if you're the type to just "ride the wave" and see where it takes you...

Thanks fredmuffin, I don't think you are the exact address of "unscholarly wisdom" though. Still, someday I may try acid but it's unlikely now that I moved into a small town by the shore.

it's only because you haven't crossed that boundary, that you restrict yourself and doubt me or my intelligence(by insult, or whatever your ego uses to defend itself). your ego does most of your talking/thinking for you, artu. you need to saw THAT little snow off at the knees, man. imo, you, like so many others like you in this world, NEED to experience ego death. until then, you're locked in this endless cycle of your ego running everything, and holding you back.
