Map Maker Ideas... discussions!!
I thought I'd start a thread where people can share different ideas on making maps.
General summary of map I am creating right now... 5 player, 2v2v1 map. The center of map above ground is a giant multi layer mountain of all lava land, with lava in the center, and thin walkways in a maze like layout to a middle island, with Inferno, which is set as an AI only Race. Will set up, when I figure out the triggers, a victory condition for taking, and holding, the Inferno Castle on the top of the mountain. 2 other races above ground one amidst a winter mountain setting, and one amidst a lot of trees, are Sylvan (Rangers) and Runemages (Dwarves) both allied, on opposite sides of the lava, and than the Dungeon (Warlock) and the Necromancers, also allied, below ground, in dungeonous caverns, in opposite sides from the above ground castles, either meeting in common ground SubT Gates between either.
In general, I think of it as a Good vs Dark vs Evil war.
One thing I'm trying to figure out... which Artifacts to use on map, and will excluding some artifacts actually keep them out? I was hoping to find out what Artifacts belong to what race. No where online, or with the Heroes Wiki site, deos it explain.
For instance, what Artifacts are labeled with Dwarves? Or Rangers? Or Warlocks? Or Necros? Some artifacts, like Axe of Mtn Lords, or Cuirass of Dwarven Kings, Dwarven Smithy Hammer... are obvious Dwarve (Runemage) artifacts. This doesn't mean only Runemages would use, or that I would only place them in the Dwarve lands... but considering entire map, I didn't want (doesn't make sense) to have Ogre Club or Ogre Shield to be found on map if the Barbarian race is not even on map. This goes for any artifact related to the 3 races not included; Wizards, Knights, Barbarians.
So if anyone can share any, or all, the artifacts only related to those I mentioned above, that would be great.
Other comments related to map making would be welcome.

Also... another idea i'm including with the map, using the artifacts, I noticed their are 8x different "Dragon" related Artifacts. Sense the 4x player based races I'm using, Dwarves, Rangers, Necro's and Warlocks, all have a Dragon at L7 creature... I wanted to make sure I included all 8x Dragon Artifacts, but spread out. I'm using 8x Obelisks behind 8x different Key Guards, needing 8x different Key tent keys, spread out... so I thought perfect to evenly spread out the 8x Dragon Artifacts, each one hiding behind a Key Guard. The irony, all 8x make a complete set, with added benefits to the player holding... but oh how difficult it will be for one player to get all 8x Dragon artifacts, when all the key tents are evenly spread with even access to all 4x Human Players.
What I would like to know, if I place those specific Artifacts on the map where I want them placed, and I exclude them from the Map Properties/Artifacts list, and those 8x dragon artifacts are UNCHECKED, will they remain in the 8x spots I preset, and not found anywhere else?

Artifacts dont really belong to any race, but some artifact sets give additional bonus to certain races, so i guess you can call Unicorn Horn Bow and Treeborn Quiver a ranger's artifacts.

P o Dragon's Set...
The 8x artifacts in the Power of Dragon's set, if I preset those in specific locations on map, as well as a few others (gold bags, horseshoes, and clovers), and than I do not include those in the Map Properties/Artifacts tab/list of available artifacts, where you check a box for every artifact to be included randomly in random locations on map... if those artifacts are preset on map, and not checked in that list...
1) Will the Artifacts still be available where it's preset on map?
2) Will they not show up anywhere else on the map?
And also...
Will any artifacts checked off on that list, ever show up more than once on the map?

1. Yes
2. If you had not allowed an artifact and have put in on the map, it will "not show up a second time." Keep in mind the List is for what will be available for Random-artifacts - minor, major and relic.(boxes)

Scripting??
Everything in Map Editor, it appears, when opening properties, has Option Tab... "Scripting". Towns, heroes, creatures, map objectives, and the maps own "properties", all have scripting, seperate tab when opening properties.
What is the purpose of this Scripting?
Another question, possibly related... how to make Victory Triggers?
I am making a 5 player map, where player 5 is an AI only town/player. Instead of nuetral, I made the town Player 5, to allow it to grow, so it gets ever so stronger, and could possibly defeat the other players, if the heroes of player 5 are not contained, and get loose. In theory, I want to make the Castle of 5 an primary objective, where any player capturing the Castle (Inferno) in the middle of the Volcanic Mountain in middle of the map, will subsequently win the game, if they hold the Castle for a long enough time frame, like another week of in game time. Secondary, if either player, 1-4, take the opposing team's towns, and the inferno town, they win without waiting.
How do I set up these victory conditions? Is this done through Scripting? How do "I Script the Scripting?"

Other Questions with map editing.
Non Transferable?
On all artifacts, there an option to check a box... "Non Transferable".
I can only imagine, this makes said Artifact BINDING?
True for HERO collecting? Or true for PLAYER collecting?
So when said hero picks up said artifact, is it automatically BOUND to said hero? Player? Must he place it where he wears it to be BOUND? Or if it lands in the hero inventory, but not worn, is it also BOUND?
Will he be able to trade it with other Heroes?
What if said hero having BOUND artifact engages an enemy hero in a fight, and hero with BOUND Artifact loses FIGHT? Does artifact than change over to Hero defeating said hero? How do the rules of said artifact BINDING work with the Victor Hero? Or does the losing hero retain even in death, and keep when Rehired in Taverns across map?
If anyone can shed some light on NON TRANSFERABLE, BINDING ARTIFACTS, please do so. Thx.
Also... Rumours?
In map properties, I can create rumours for said map, which only show up in Thieves Guild and Taverns, Correct? Only when players seek the advice or rumours from said buildings?
Creating the Rumours, what is Rumour Weight? Is this a Chance % of how often said Rumour will show up when seeking rumours? Good idea to have multiple rumours at 100? or make them less? If listed under Town Type/ Town Random Town, will this mean said rumour could be seen by any, all towns?
Is this ONLY for Human Player Characters? Will the AI Characters know how to read, and understand what rumours say?

Placing the Tear of Asha
I just had a question about placing the Tear of Asha.
On my map, I would like to place it on one of 4 sides of a building. If i place it on just one side, it will always be on same side. So what if I place 4x "Artifact Grails" one on each side, close together? It will still only place ONE correct, randomly choosing which one to place?
Just curious what will happen if I place 4x Grails, hoping it chooses one randomly? Or will it place one on all 4x locations?
