I only have select songs in my music archive that have accumulated over the years, amounts to 6.8gb most of the archives are for my phone (got like separate folders for all the new song collections and for new mobiles).

Less than 10 GB, I mostly have vinyls, tapes and cds, while on the computer I rather stream. The only use I have for music on the computer is when I have to work on a song, so I can loop, slow down etc.

Size doesn't matter, it matters what you do with it.

As time passed, I've ripped my CD's to higher and higher bitrates, which consume more harddisk space. You should rather ask about the number of songs in your library? Mine comes close to 5500~ish. I can listen for nearly a month non-stop without ever hearing the same song, performed by the same artist, twice. The only exceptions are when I have a studio version of a song as well as a concert/live version one, but those are few.

That's a good point actually, I assumed almost everybody would be between the 256-320 kpbs range but some are flac people. My iTunes library says it has 42.057 items. I used to be a CD person like Galaad but once you get used to the ease of use, you just cant go back. Now, I even import most of the CDs that I own just to reach them easier and have them at one place. Streaming isnt the same, besides, when it comes to jazz and classical, not every performance is right under your finger like it is in rock or pop.

Well, I did go back, for me it was unnecessary use of disk space. But maybe it is because as far as ritual goes, I rather use the physical records, preferably LP/EP.

I used to have quite big collection but I don't even use computer now days that much. I have maybe 50 gigas on usb when I can plug it where ever I want to. I use smaller usb sticks on car (until I broke the slot).

Don't like to listen from Spotify because the annoying commercials but wife listen with it sometimes.

Years ago I deleted most of my mp3s as result: Do, I really need all these, idea.

I still have a very large collection of tunes on LP, 45, Cassette and CD. Although it is only about half of what it once was since I passed a lot of it on to family and friends. I even have a decent stack of 78s that I picked-up a long time ago at a garage-sale.

My last 2 PCs I began a digital collection (ripping) from various sources and also picking-up some new songs at I-Tunes etc. But the last PC burnt down taking a lot of work with it. Back-up back-up and back-up!

TY Artu for bringing this up - I need money and I might as well sell my collections.

Man, that is one of your traditions I really envy. I was watching a blues documentary once and the guy got in a barn, yes, a barn, he paid like 150 dollars to the owner, taking literally a TRUCK LOAD of old records with him. We have no garage sales here. There are stores that take used stuff and sell it cheap but they are full of furniture, electronics etc. Record stores who sell used  LP's are much more expensive.

Last one I bought was 8 TL which is around 2.5 dollars. It was an unknown pianist called Joe Chindamo and I guess hit albums are a little more expensive though. To be frank, I mostly download torrents at this point.

Times are changing. As time marched on I had to do the same as you, so don't feel too left out. Actually my love of music (deals & steals :>) eventually expanded into my getting into many areas and what you described became a cool adventure of a sort - some fun.

i.e Back in the day when I had money I picked-up really cool and unusual things that were or had faded from modern use. Since I was a skilled craftsman in many areas i.e I would pick up anything made of real wood...even from "curbside" when old furniture was set-out for the trash-truck and repair it to use myself or sell. American's have to be one of the most wasteful peoples on the planet. Argh! Most saw trash - I saw Gold.

Same with music...I still have turntables and players of every type. My place looks more like an electronics music museum than a typical home. <L>

<imvho> Most possessions should NEVER be bought new. It's far better for people starting out to think "investment" every time they purchase. "What will this gadget/thing be worth next year?" is a good gage.

Sorry to veer off-topic a wee bit but I had to...you know.

Don't feed the troll.

I personally have 22+GB of music on my system, which translates roughly to 2400+ songs. Mostly in mp3 format.

I do own some cds, but the collection of them could be counted on both hands.

340 GB on singles / over 21k tracks in my archives (320 kbps quality mostly)

That is after 10+ years of DJing and probably 1000 hours of sets recorded. I do listen to new music pretty much constantly, few hours every day at least. So if by any chance you guys have more archives, you never actually listened to that.

By the way, check me on Last.fm
