[HELP!] Missing object help text in map editor
I'm using the Heroes 3 HD steam version, and for some reason the help text in the map editor won't pop up when I right click an object.
I can't seem to find any solution while googling.. Hell, I can't even find the question asked while googling. So I decided to ask here.
My OS is windows 8.1.
Edit: Pressing F1 doesn't work either, nothing happens. Even though the bottom of the editor sais "For help press F1"

Nobody knows? I can't be the only one in the world with this problem..
For example if you right click a corpse adventure map object, a text should appear saying something like: "20% chance of receiving a random treasure, minor or major class artifact". But for me there's no text showing up.

Never had a steam version but had similiar problems with original games map editor while mods or expansions like wog or hota where installed. Both had their own map editor what had the help text on them. Don't know for sure but probably the editor tries to find help file from wrong location. One option is to copy that help file to the current folder the editor is trying to find, other simpler way might be installing some addon what comes with the editor/help files. Don't know the requlations for steam version tough but you can always download it again if it does not support it.
Just came in mind that there are those map object patches or mods, they might produce new updated map editor in them self. Might want to look up those as well, I have had only the map editor of the game some time ago with no game, so it's possible to find working map editor to download, sorry for being lazy and not finding a link to you right now.

I tried to open the "H3WMAPED.HLP" file from the link you gave me, and a window popped up with this text:
Quote: Why can't I get Help from this program?
The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. For more info, go to the Microsoft Support website.
So perhaps the map editor can't read the help file because it's not supported in Windows 8.1. I'll go check the Microsoft support website for answers.

Oh, nevermind, I think Grayfaces map patch isn't compatible with the HD version anyway.
I managed to open the help file after manually downloading and installing a windows update, but it turns out that's just the help documentation but in an older format. That documentation file already works for me, but in the HD version it's called "mapEditor.chm" instead of "H3WMAPED.HLP".
I suspect other files may also use a different format than the original game, so I don't think patches for the original game will work.

Yes, but you can have map editor as standalone version. Use it separetly and save your maps in map folder, should work I think.
