Fortress>?? weak?
i think not
they r very strong in that they have mighty gorgons(they r truely mighty) , wyyern, and dragon flys. those can be a pretty deadly combo when used well
there shooter isnt so good but greater basiliks i think compensates 4 them

I agree with BD I dont think Fortress is that strong. Dragon Flies well I dont know about that but to me there not the strong of a combo because the best unit is so slow

Fortress is very strong
Yes they are slow, but fortress has many advantages, there is no creature that can take out an azure in one shot other than the mighty gorgon. wyverns are weak yes compared to other lvl 6 creatures, but what other lvl 6 creature can u usually build on day one of a game? none. with fortress and a fly on your scouts, you have the fastest scouts of any other castle type, Hydra also have the advantage of multiple attack, so many creatures just stand there while you kill em off slowly (hit a dwarven treasury with just a few hydra or chaos hydra sometime to see what i mean. You guys just keep thinking how weak fortress is I'll give you a good beating playin fortress on an SOD map that has crystals and azures

Fortess is good as it is if you know how to play it. if your char has expert hast or expert tactics and all creatures are fast at your opponent has not many chances. chaos hydras attack all creatures around and they cant hit back. mighty gorgons can hit many 7lvl creatures at once if you have enough of them. once i took 13 7lvl with one strike. serpent flies are very good. they are fast, dipsel and cast weakness. anyone who says fortess is weak can't play with this town.
But what has this talking to do with heroes4

These towns can build a shipyard:
Castle
Conflux
Fortress
Necropolis
Mighty Gorgons rank right up there as the creatures (less than level 7) that I fear most.
I find that the Fortress is weak, but that is because my playing style does not work well with the Fortress, probably not because it is such a weak town.

Its proably just my playing style I like a fast moving offense like Arch Angels and not slow and steady. Fortress is a strong town just not my style

Magic..
Expert teleport... can come in handy when attacking towns as fortress.. Think of it from the defenders side.. Having some chaos hydras teleporting into your castle on round one.. .wyverns and flies directly behind.. . If you leave your castle (and the hydras) behind.. you run straight into the gorgons and basilisks that are waiting outside.. .not nice..

What if the tower team has good magic and a pack of titan queen, mage and the gaurd tower will surely destory the hydra and that. what if the fortress dont get the magic teleport

What if?
Quote: What if the tower team has good magic and a pack of titan queen, mage and the gaurd tower will surely destory the hydra and that. what if the fortress dont get the magic teleport
I was just stating a fact.. that it could be one solution... Not the Solution..! Your argument isn't very profound.. . The "what if?" isn't a good line when proving an opposite.. . A discussion relying on that could go on for eternity with just two people going...
- what if it has this and that.. ?!?
- what if it hasn't??
- well.. then what if it had this too..?!?
- then what if it can't have that.. ?!
- etc. etc.
The fact is that I based my post on a scenario where A. fortress player had teleport, and B. tower guy didn't have a pack of titan (queens?)..
Of course I could say something like:
- well if the tower has a pack of titans.. then the fortress has zounds of hydras..
hahaa.. *lol*.. what a stupid argument..

Hi, Black_Dragon,
You think fortress is weak, maybe just coz you don't like it or you don't play it very often.
IMO, if you want to "test" the potential of different town types and test your battle skill but don't have time to play with others online. Maybe just go to portal of might and magic website:
http://www.mmportals.com/heroes3.html
There is a battle ground there and you can download maps in which you can fight EVERY TOWN TYPE with ANY TOWN TYPE you chose on a 1-on-1 basis. Try it !

fortress
...they have one more advantage. That is their terrain, there can be no surprises 'cause they always see you first and have time to plan a defence. It's so hard to walk on that ground and from hunter you can easily become a pray...

It wont be that big gain that mighty gorgon can take Azure
But I agree that Fortress is a good town to play. It`s even better in SoD. Wywerns cant stand for real combat (or damage), but they have their uses. Dragon Flyes are surprisingly durable and the weakness and dispel they cast can be quite annoying. Lizard Warriors are now better and will do more damage and will come in numbers (SoD, but they aren`t clearly the biggest threat. Gnoll Marauders won`t help much either. Greater Basilisks are good and useful.
Mighty Gorgons can take easily out most of the 7th level creatures and Hydras can take out most low level creatures easily (remember more stacks opponent have the better.
By the way, the best hero fortress have is Bron. He comes (usually) with some basilisks in start and has resistance.
He and Mirlanda are my favourites when playing with fortress.

fortress can be strong. It's just that many people depend on shooters too much, where it's far more important to have some fast canonfodder. dragflies r the ideal canonfodder and ideal scouts.
So of course it's all a matter of taste, but 4 slots of drag flies (3 with 1 in em and 1 with new supplie), mighty gorgs, hydras and wyvs, make a hell of an army gainst monsters. Gainst opps u'll need haste or teleport.

One thing i dont like with fortress is that their specials are luck depending. Mighty MOOOOOOOOO´s death stare can kill many lvl 7 creatures or just a few. Wyern Monarchs Poison is also very useful on lvl 7 creatures but if u get unlucky...
Same thing with upg. basilisks, to stone an enemy unit can be great...if u get lucky and get that stone thing.
I dont like to be depending on luck and there for i dont like fortress as a town much. But those MOOOOO´s are one of my favourite units in this game, MOOO power really rocks (when u get lucky with it that is)

that's why playing fortress is fun. I bet you like playing Castle where none of the creature specialty is luck dependent. Well, most people agree that Castle is boring, maybe mainly because of that. Playing fortress also reqires a bit more thinking than playing Castle

I love fortress. won some of my games there.
Can cast teleport to the yhdras over the wall 7 hit multiple hits.
The mighties are strong I kileed alot of arch angels with just one hit.
Basilisk can turn someone to stone.
The monarchs are tough, can use them to do some damage.
On most maps building the hydra pond in week one is pretty easy, so by the time you evade a well guarded castle, you should have a good army.
The dragon fly cave can give you alot of wyverns.
Gorgons as strong as they are is a lv 5 creature, so you get a bunch of them.
Last-having the hydras better yet chaos but both is good, is one of the best creatures I love to use in crushing wondering monsters anywhere, of course in common sense you dont want to attack creatures that can kill all your hydras.
If you find a high lv dwelling, like the hydra pond or the gorgon lair, that would help.

Actually, the Mighty Gorgon stare is one of the most reliable of the luck-based creature specials, because it gets increasingly likely as you increase the stack size. None of the others do. Take a stack of 200 Mighty-Gorgons, and it will death-stare eighteen, nineteen, or twenty victims nearly every time! (Number of victims capped at (MOOstacksize/10). I could go into the maths if you'd like.)
