Ashan Stronghold Mountain-Style
Welcome to my newest idea!
I had this idea already quite some time ago and now, I worked on it and present it to you:
Heroes 5 had orcs from the giant steppes of Ranaar.
Heroes 6 had orcs from the jungles of Pao Islands.
Heroes 7 had orcs from the Sahaar desert.
And if heroes 8 is really going to take place at Ashan again ( I read a certain article), I do hope, we get orcs from the mountains. This is just my imagination of how it could look.
Well, of course only, if we ever get a H8.
Oh, racial, heroes and so on will be of course the same as always on Ashan. Simply, really, only units! More or less.
I owe non of the pictures:
As much, as I could find some of course.
INFO:
The world knows about the giant hordes at the steppes of Ranaar or the orcs from the jungles on the Pao Islands. Some do also know about the orcs, who never left the dessert. But only very, very few know, that orcs are also at home at the mountains.
These orcs and beastmen here are a bit different from the other. More hardened from their Environment and a bit more barbaric. More then other groups, they go on raiding towns and settlements from other races. The mountains are a symbol of the connection between mother earth and father sky. As such, they refer often to a certain mountain as their hometown and the ones having an ear to its whispers are the religious leaders of the clans.
Satyr / Skirmisher walker, ranged
LORE:
The Satyrs were never meant to be. Instead, Centaurs with the lower body of a goat should do the job at the mountains. But for unknown reasons, it did not work. No matter, what the wizards tried, this combination had only a very short lifespan. But one day, one of the wizards changed the formula and thus the Satyr were born, created to patrol and fight as a ranged infantry on the mountains.
When the time has come to revolt, to free from the chains of slavery, the Satyrs had only one place to go. And so, when all the orcs and beastmen were running off in every direction, the Satyrs traveled to the mountains and stayed.
Abilities:
Goat Jump: Unit can jump over obstacles on the battlefield, does not go for units or walls, who block only 1 tile at its way.
(U) Maneuver: When the creature is supposed to retaliate after a melee attack, it gets away from enemy and responds with ranged attack.
Harpy / Fury flier, melee
LORE:
Harpies were made with many variations. Of course, this includes the combination with birds, home at mountains as well.
Abilities:
Strike and Return: Creature attacks target and returns to its starting point.
(U) No retaliation: Enemy can not retaliate to attacks from this unit.
Brute / Crusher walker, melee
LORE:
The Orcs from the mountains are different from the other groups. More wild and aggressive but with a sense of great honor and stubborn like only dwarves could be. Grown up at a place, which great hardships they are used to fight even on worst circumstances.
Abilities:
Unfettered: Creature can not be slowed down.
(U)High Morale: Creature has always positive morale.
Sabertooth Raider / Sabertooth Rider walker, melee
LORE:
The mountains do not have the places with space, big enough to give hordes of goblins room they need to outnumber their opponents. But goblins had always a thing with monsters. At the mountains, the Sabertooth is the favorite.
Abilities:
Hunter: If unit can make a flanking attack, it gets X% bonus on damage.
(U)Unlimited retaliation: Creature does always retaliate.
Snow Wyvern / Ice Wyvern flier, melee
LORE:
One of the many sub-species of the Wyvern.
Abilities:
Regeneration: On every start of its turn, creature regenerates to full HP.
Resistance to air: Creature has X% resistance to damage and negative effects of air magic.
(U) Resistance to water: Creature has X% resistance to damage and negative effects of water magic.
(U) Frost bite: X% chance to freeze target. Reduce certain stats by X% and can not retaliate until start of next round.
Yeti / Elder Yeti walker, melee
LORE:
Some say, they are relatives of the Behemoth maybe less big and strong but more intelligence. It is told, that they were once followers of Shalassa. Others say, they still are. Truth is only, they were already there, when the orcs and beastmen came and the Yeti helped. And stayed with them.
Abilities:
Climber: Units can climb over walls during a siege.
(U)Piercing Claws: Every Strike of this unit ignores X% of enemy defense.
Cyclops / Mountain Cyclops walker, ranged
LORE:
The Cyclops of the mountains have developed a little game to have fun and kill time: They throw rocks to each other or certain targets. Their preferred targets are troops of the enemy of course.
Abilities:
Crushing Throw: Creature attacks always a 2x2 area, damaging everything on it. It can also attack walls during a siege.
Sharp Eye: Instead of attacking a unit, target will be marked with the one eye of the cyclops. If not attack until its next turn, unit deals X% additional damage to marked unit.
(U) Deep Throw: Hits every small unit on its way but looses X% of damage after every hit. Is stopped, when hitting a big creature.
I could not stop thinking about Bowling as name of the very last ability of the Cyclops.

Yeti looks kind of like Behemoths. They were nice.
Orcs need hudge fields to conquer. In mountains they just divide by walleys and fight each with other. But this is nice too, savage mountain orcs.

Thanks you two.
I have to say, I do hope, this will be, if ever going to happen, the next Mountain-Stronghold. Ashan or not.
And I like my orcs from the mountains savage.

I do like the idea of mountain orcs. I think this picture sums it up nicely (and works well for a ranged orc unit)

It's the art for a game called Endless Legend. It is for one of the minor factions, the Hurnas. Useful for illustrating the ideas of mountain orcs.
