[HOMM 2] Arrax The Jerk
What's the password for the red barrier? I have no idea what I'm looking for, in the meantime he keeps stocking up on Cyclopses, so I'll prolly lose.

I don't recall 100% how it worked, but if password is generated in game, then the only way to get it is to visit the red tent. So no way for someone to give you the password, if it was always the same, you could just grab it from the editor (which I hope you already tried)

It's different every time—generated when you start the map. Only way is to find the tent or to keep guessing from literally thousands of possible answers. (Don't do that.)
Conquer the map, level up your hero as much as you can, try to learn good spells etc. and the final battle should be fine.

Moreover, visiting the password tent triggers the removability of the barrier. If you visit the tent just to know the password and load the game to the moment where you haven't visited the tent yet, even the "correct" password won't work.
However, if you forget the password during the game, you can make a reserve savegame for that case. In short, once the tent is visited, the password becomes "active".

Wow, really? Never knew that! I would always just write the passwords down on a piece of paper, and I don't think I ever tried getting a password then loading to use it. It's cool that you can't cheat like that though.
When I saw that you had posted, I got my hopes up that you were saying we would be able to play this map in HS3W. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting.

I have a question about tents, actually. If one AI player goes to a tent, can any other AI player remove the barrier?
I guess a better question would be, have you ever played the last mission of the Wizard's Isle campaign? XD From playing it I pretty much know they can but I was wondering if you have any insight. That map was totally broken, but that's what made it so much fun!

It's already converted for H3SW, so no worries. What's more, you won't have to write down the passwords anymore thanks to H3 engine.
Project Ironfist also dealt with the issue, although there were some, er, aesthetes who considered the flexible H3-styled tent-password system a huge loss.

No as far as I know. Many complicated user scenarios would go all chaos if it was so, including my all-time favorite Ghost Planet by Charles Watkins. Even the allied computers can't share the barrier passwords.

I can't remember any problems with that scenario. Probably it was too long ago so I don't recall the details.

(All hail Ghost Planet!)
That's a good point though. I wonder how it happened in the Wizard's Isle map.
In the map, there's one big vortex-shaped island and a bunch of smaller islands (You have to sail to a different corner of the map just to get a sawmill!) On the main island, there's the center with an AI player with 3 warlock towns blocked off by 5 barriers. Outside the center is another AI player with 5 different castles, and each castle is sort of guarding a path to one of the tents.
The in-game storyline states you're supposed to conquer the armies of Men and then face down the dragons, but by the time you get there, the warlocks have somehow broken out of the center and taken over a lot of the other AI's territory. So you end up facing powerful heroes with lots of black dragons way earlier than you're supposed to, which is why I consider it one of the most interesting and fun maps I've played! Maps where the strongest enemy just sits in a castle and waits for you to kill him aren't quite as exciting.
I remember at one point I restarted the map and used the reveal map cheat to see how it happened. Everything was normal for a few weeks, and then out of nowhere one of the warlock heroes just opened all 5 gates at once and went on his merry way. I don't even think the other AIs had gotten to the all the tents.

That's an interesting case, yet seems to be a major bug. In my Russian pirate localisation back in the time there were even greater bugs which didn't allow to finish some PoL campaigns at all.
