Fast:-) Thanks AlexSpl. Its community :-)
Well, I didn't get it to work but I found a way to use it.
I open up the ogreGUI which doesn't have a working character set for cyrilic, and the hex editor which does, and google translate because my russian is not the best. Then for each string I take the adress from the OgreGUI, look up the adress in the hex editor, paste that into the translator, figure out what that is supposed to be in english, write it down, adjust string size.
As you can immagine it's going slow
The button translations are all .agg stuff, and I'm still not sure about some things (graphic text on the score screen for example), but that's been done for days.
Now if I'm going to translate this, it's a lot of work and the .exe can't be changed before it's done, because all the text strings are in the exe. So I guess nothing should be done until I'm done?
But as for the next thing on the programmer side, a nice additional "look TE fixed the long standing bug" thing to make core would be to make flying backwards look normal instead of backwards.

There are some strings which I'm not sure how to translate because I'm not sure what they're used for, for example:
Колдунья - Is this meant to be the Sorceress?

Can't copy-paste because the lengths are different. I translate some in hex, and I need OgreUI for some, it'll take me a while, but I'll get it done.
EDIT: Also, the russian translation translated spell names this way: "View All" - "All". "View Artifacts" - "Artifacts". "View Heroes" - "Heroes". "Summon Boat" - "Boat."
EDIT2: Also, some stuff like spell descriptions behave in a funny way. If you fill out "extra" spaces between the russian string for the spell name and the description with 00 then the description doesn't show up. If you use "space" then they do show up but the spell name is off centre because of the space (and sometimes it would need more spaces).
Similar thing with menu option stuff. It's going to be tricky to do all this right.

Use 'end of line' (0A in hex). You should've figured it out as of yet.

I can't read unicode, so if you have problems while translating, post clipped screenshots instead of unicode.

So, you saw the version with this feature. What do you suggest to fix/improve?

Yes, I just came to say I figured it out

Good point, if I run into this sort of thing I'll do it.

Ah, nothing, it (seems) fine (although that version is a bit buggy in other things). Just if it isn't in the current version add it to the current version when I translate it, please?

The main reason why that feature was abandoned and didn't show up in later versions of TE is that there were some issues with attack/retaliation sequence and an issue with bad morale. Maybe I could write a fix someday.
In any case, TE was developed for offline tournaments. I've never meant to present it as a mod. And anyway global changes require a different approach to patching.

Well, since it seems to fix several bugs with the windows version (especially now that the cursor is fixed), once I translate it to English it'll not be a mod as much as an unofficial bugfix patch with some additional graphics content (like heroes in place of tents, hex grid and my spell descriptions explaining the damage formulas for some spells).
But what do you mean by different approach?
I'm interested in making it as user friendly as possible.

I mean that TE was supposed to be what it was intended for. To provide fair and bug-free offline gameplay. Offline players don't care much about cursors or units moving backwards. It's all about competition.
If someone aims for a real mod, he should rather use patcher_x86 written by baratorch instead of messing with opcodes, because it provides an easy and safe way for keeping your code consistent and prevents from making unnecessary mistakes while patching.

I don't understand what you mean by "offline players". Right now if someone just wants to play H1 on their own, play the campaign or some hotseat with wife/husband or kids, show the kids the game from when he was young, or just wants to play H1 because they started with H2 or H3 and never played it, TE is the best. People on GOG are/were complaining about the cursor, like, people who actually bought the game recently. Now once it's translated, they can just stick these few files into their folder and have the best windows H1 experience. It just needs to be in English.
As for competition, what competition? If there are players who don't care about cursors or units moving backwards, I can tell you right now they're some weird kind of minority. With a couple of interface related features and bugfixes you could sell H1 on Steam today, it would be a hit with the casual crowd. You couldn't with a bugged cursor.
Speaking of that, how does the TE change gameplay? There are no monster weeks, which is actually a reasonable thing even for singleplayer, but is there anything else?

Hmmm, where can I find this?

Thank you. But I don't think the sun shines that brightly.

Now I'm starting to think that competitive gameplay is a part of Russian culture lol. Well, it is. Russian players are the best, no doubt about it, seconded only by Chinese players occasionally

No, monster weeks removed only in the version for online games (1.05 f1). Full changelog here.

You'll probably need it, if you know how to code in C++. You can download both dll and its sources from there.

Now now, don't poke the man, he did fix the cursor, did some other stuff and was generally quite helpful.
I have translated a lot, but my comp crashed while I was fixing a mistake and now the damned hex editor which actually recognized cyrilic for me (and enabled me to do anything) has run it's trial rate and doesn't work anymore. Very annoying, gotta find another hex editor. I don't mind paying money, but this is a stupid reason to do so.

Enjoy H1 music in high quality. Thanks to Miner.

If you play H1 TE, just rename every "Track %N.flac" to "%N-AudioTrack %N.ogg", put them into Tracks folder, apply "Tracks folder path fix" below, and enjoy listening while playing.
Tracks folder path fix (x64)
H1TEReg.zip
Change the default path "D:\\Games\\Heroes of Might and Magic" in Tracks.reg to the path to your H1 folder and apply.

Those are tracks ripped from the original Heroes of Might and Magic CD (v1.0).
As for SMKs, if you want them back, apply the following patch:
58D56: E8 14 F8 FF FF. But note, that you need localized versions of SMKs to make it work.
