WCL tournament statistics for "best hero" shows Orrin is very often picked as main -people are fooled by his specialty, therefore he has a high PI, the 8th from complete hero list. But if you look closely, his ratio win/loss is behind all barbarians. Of course he can get an optimal build too, but not so often as a barb.

Those are stats from SoD games, i wanna see the results from HotA. And i agree with you, since creature banks mostly give melee units Orrin can't do anything against barbarians/beastmasters unless he was hired in Tower. I hope new creature banks will be giving ranged units or old hill fort will be reapplied (with preferably double price) to give Orrin what he deservers.

It is curious to see than necropolis is generally banned in sod but its win/lose ratio is really bad.

There are 3 HotA map objects I would like to be altered a bit:
*Altar of Mana - The idea of sacrificing creatures for mana is interesting, but the cap at 4 times the normal amount is a bit extreme, I think 1 or 2 times would be fine. When you get such a huge amount of mana, there is no need for Mysticism, Intelligence or generally conserving mana.
*Seafaring Academy - I like the idea of this University on Water, what I don't like is that not only can you buy skills, you can also get them on advanced and expert levels, potentially giving you 9 level ups! I don't know how I feel about it always offering Navigation, since Battle Mages can't learn this skill.
*Wooden Hill Fort - Again the idea of upgrading level 1-5 units is good, what I don't like is you have to pay double cost, where a standard Hill Fort actually makes it a lot cheaper to upgrade.
Level 1-5 at normal upgrade cost would be fine imo.

Imho there is no need for mana, every well provides full spellpoints, some springs on rough terrain double, same for Dungeon towns Mana Vortex, to stay one night in town with mageguild returns full spellpoints same for 3 treasure artifacts combined, Flasks in the ocean also provides spellpoints. Maybe it's jsut me, coz I dont use much spells the whole game, only exception in most case is mass haste/slow, DD, TP, Armageddon, rarely counterstrike (vampires) but more or less thats it, maybe situational a few more spells.
I absolutely agree on point 2, dunno why you can upgrade oyur skills there aswell. There is no reason for it.
AS for hillforts I like the idea to have some variation here not just the optics.

The vortex of mana shouldn't replenish all your mana as well , and I agree the game has too many ways of recovering 100% of your mana thus making intelligence/mysticism not really useful. I changed mysticism to 4/7/10 and still feels subpar. Also, the best spells have low costs anyway.
Maybe making harder to recover spell points would boost those skills, but it could also make the life of mages even harder.

Wog idea about mysticism showing available spells in not yet build guilds seems to me the more appropriate to revive this skill. I would however link it to hero level, not just expertise as it is too easy. A hero level 20+ should be required to "see" 5th level spells.

I also had Mysticism at 4/7/10, but I recently changed it to 6/11/16 and it actually feels almost too good to me now, but my map is not filled with Magic Wells, Mana Springs or Altars of Mana either.
It actually makes Thant extremely OP, so much I felt I had to put him in prison and replace him with Ranloo.

The best way to improve mysticism without overeating is 5/10/15 per cent of your total spell points.
Only is powerful in high levels if you have 20 knowledge you will recover 30 spell points combined with inteligence 60 but in this high levels is not so many powerful.
One thing is clear mysticism as it is is a very bad skill.

Pathfinding and Mysticism are the 2 skills that can be replaced with artifacts and that makes them, i don't know, kinda faulty? The other day in online lobby i saw a member of the HotA crew talking about balancing plans of crappy skills. Let's hope it will not take ages to see the changes.

@MCB Yeah a percentage for Mysticism would make the most sense, sadly you can only specify a specific amount of mana, but I guess it would be possible with scripts or reverse engineering.
@Orrinisthebest Leadership and Luck is also easily replaced by artifacts, there is even the necklace that gives +3 Morale & +3 Luck.
What have you heard about skill changes?

No, the ones you mentioned can be negated/boosted but not replaced by artifacts. Uhm it was just a random talk, someone asked that can we expect changes regarding crappy skills like eagle eye and learning and a moderator( with colored name) said that we are planning to make some balance changes about those skills.

Well if you get +3 morale and +3 luck you hardly need Leadership or Luck.
Okay, but it's nice that they are still thinking about improving the most crappy skills. I hope they can/will do something about Eagle Eye, cause even though I tried to change it, it remains a crappy skill.

Hello, I want to present you small mod for HotA that I made today.
HotA Legacy mod
This mod contains original main menu art and RoE/AB/HC/SoD campaigns adapted for HotA gampelay. Tested on HotA 1.4.2.
Installation:
- Put campaign files in Maps directory,
- Open Data directory and put files from HotA.lod and HotA_lng.lod in proper .lod archive. You can use simple tool called MMArchive.
- Put ALTERNATIVE ASSETS folder with its content in Data directory. You will need it later on.
Using:
Unfortunately, before every RoE/AB/HC campaign game (but not SoD) you must change HotA.lod and HotA_lng.lod with their new substitutes; otherwise game will show you some wrong videos and pictures. It's about time you done backup.

Hello!
I think a great addition to this mod would be to have custom hero models(on battle and advutenture map) that fit the portraits. I'm tired to see my minotaur sorcerer looking like a rogue human woman! How shameful for the mighty darkstorm!
