This is very boring.
There are already books of magic in the game.
But they work by school, these work by spell level.

Quote:
My version:

Tome of the Novice (slot - different) - hero has access to all Level 1 spells.

Enchanted ring (ring slot) - hero has access to all level 2 spells.

Sigil of the sorcerer (shield slot)  +2 knowledge and hero has access to all level 3 spells.

Wizard's wand (sword slot) +2 the power of magic and hero has access to all level 4 spells.

The Sigil and Wand stand out as having two dissimilar effects, which pretty much never happens, except sometimes for Combo Artefacts, so I'm not too certain about them.

There's also the option of some artifacts granting the ability to cast single spells at Expert level, regardless of whether the hero even has the wisdom level for it. Maybe even ones that cast certain spells at expert level at the beginning of combat.

Might heroes would benefit the most from this an I second the impression that those artifacts are to similar to existing ones.

Instead of new single-spell artifacts I'd rather see some of the spell specialist heroes improved.

How about a combination Artifact?

Artifact 1: Grants +2 Spell Power to the wearer
Artifact 2: Grants +2 Knowledge to the wearer
Artifact 3: Reduces Spell Mana cost by 1 point
Artifact 4: Causes enemy spells to cost 1 mana point more

Combined:
Grants all spells of level 1 through 4.

TBH at least two of the components are more interesting than the combo. I mean, I don't think we've got an artifact yet that modifies the cost of spells. Which is kinda weird, since both H2 and H4 had them.

Combination Artifacts contain the individual Artifact stats as well .

Maybe Wayfarer's Boots should facilitate walking through forests or mountains if the wearer already holds the Pathfinding skill. Like a soft version of Angel Wings.

The Artifact effects are nice, but the combined one is kinda meh. There are the Tomes of Fire, Water, Air, Earth after all. So wouldn't the combined effect be redundant?

Generally though, you want the combo artefact to have an effect that's similar to, or more interesting that those of the components.

Here's an idea:
Shield of the Living Forest Combo (Centaur's Ax, Shield of the Dwarven Lords, Breastplate of Petrified Wood, Helm of the Alabaster Unicorn) - Casts at the start of each  combat, at Expert Level: Stone Skin, Earth Shield, Air Shield, Protection From Air, Protection from Earth, Protection from Fire, Protection From Water
Lance of the Wyvern's Tail Combo (Greater Gnoll's Flail, Buckler of the Gnoll King, Scales of the Greater Basilisk, Helm of Chaos) - +1 Morale if army contains at least 1 Fortress creature, army treats Swamp as a native terrain, and all troops gain 'Poison' ability.

Surely not all the spells since that would be both overpowered, but also tiring to wait for all of them to be cast. But it could be one spell out of those mentioned, randomly chosen at the beginning of each battle (similar to what Enchanters are doing).

How about the ability to leave stacks of your army out of the battle "a la" Heroes 5? At least when you're the attacker. It's just so frustrating when you have your shooters decimated whenever sieging a weak castle!

It could be shown right before the combat as the garrison window, and you might be able to actívate/deactivate it (kind of in the same fashion as when you change from "open" deployment to "close" deployment).

Didn't you buff Pathfinding in your version ?

As a suggestion: Pathfinding reduces the movement cost on rough terrain even further. So a Hero with Pathfinding could walk a little bit better on snow terrain than on grass.

That would make Pathfinding Logistics 2.0 and defy logic.

I wish we just once and for all could agree to remove every artifact that ruins skills, that includes Angel Wings, Wayfarer's Boots and Wizard's Well (or give it a serious nerf)
Orb of Vulnerability ruins Resistance, but I guess that's the point, so I guess it can stay.

I guess in the current skill setup you are right, Logistics and Pathfinding would be a bit similar, but it would still remain a situational skill just a bit better. For the logic I don't think it is a problem, I'm sure there are people who can find better shortcuts in rough terrain than on other terrain, if trained properly

I don't think it's any worse than the Armour of the Damned, which is only made from components one step up from those.

It's a combo artefact, so it's not exceptionally easy to string together. And it only works on the one terrain.

Include the "Recanters Cloak" and "Orb of Inhibition" in that, since the former makes Wisdom useless, and the later bans spellcasting in general. Also, the "Orb of Vulnerability" only affects a creature's natural magic resistance, not that gifted by skills, spells or artefacts AFAIK.

I like both of these ideas but I think Shield of the Living Forest should instead cast Stone Skin, Earth Shield, Air Shield, Precision, and Magic Mirror.

It should be in the description of the HotA that you can't get creatures from necromancy if you have it equipped.
Not knowing that just screwed my financier plans for this week...

Are you talking about the Horn if the Abyss artifact Bloodsucker? Does it disable Necromancy? I never played much with it.
