Why is this thread still allowed to exist  my heart can only take so much
To me what new Heroes games (VI and VII) lack is POLISH. I have been thinking about it and they both had neat features *in concept*- But in reality games are awfully buggy, messy and unfinished. And this is also whart ruins H4. That was due to bankruptcy tho, but Ubisoft doesn't face this, they are filthy rich. They are just cheap f*cks that make a 1/4 finished game and sell it for AAA price since they treat Might and Magic as a second rate franchise.
The most important thing of a new Heroes game will be taking your time and not releasing it in an awful beta stage. Make everything look and feel good and work correctly.

Assuming Fanstratics and Songs of Conquest do well I don't think its inconceivable that we'll get Heroes 8 in a few years. Hopefully they'll learn their lesson this time, although at this point I don't see how they could surpass H3 with the very active modding community. I feel like Elder Scrolls 6 is gonna have that same problem. They took to long, the modding community took over, and now whatever the official sequel is will be disappointing.

Ya know, who knows what will happen with this franchise going forward, but I would bet a significant sum of cash the next installment will just be called, "Heroes of Might and Magic" or "Might and Magic Heroes" in the typical, 'look at this totally original and cool game concept we totally came up with on our own' fashion that's fashionable these days.
Whether it's good or not is another matter, but they seem to insist on leaning into the Warcraft rip-off "Ashan" bullsnow that no one cares about.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but a dark fey faction that looks like Ashan dungeon in Blackreach would be really cool as long as it doesn't replace a current faction.

So there is hope for non-warcraft... err I mean, non-ashan games.
The problem with the Ashan dungeon is that it tries to pass off as the successor to the H3 dungeon and obviously fails miserably as its a completely different, "dark elf cold" concept, and some of the creatures don't even fit with that, such as the Minotaur ...which even in H5 had a BDSM style mask -seriously, do cows attack by biting? And it has two battle axes... woudn't it use that anyways?- and... nipple piercings. Yuck.
So yeah, Abandon Ashan and nipple pierced minotaurs forever

I don't think the eventual success of Fanstratics and Song of Conquest will have any bearing on whether we'll see a Heroes 8 being developed or not. There is a market for fantasy TBS, with some highs and lows at times I bet, but overall it will always be there and that's why I'm not buying the "dying genre" idea. So here I do agree that a Heroes 8 is not out of the question, but not because of the influence of other games in any essential way.
I definitely do not agree with the parallel with Elder Scrolls 5 and 6 for two reasons. The first being that it's not an accurate comparison given the different genres, which means that different factors are more important, have priority and influence how well received the game is. The second is that Elder Scrolls 6 is going to sell like hot bread the moment it's put on sale. It's one of the most anticipated titles I could think of. If anything, Elder Scrolls 5 is a great voucher that a sequel would be worth buying. It's more like how Heroes 5 lead to the financial success of Heroes 6 in that sense, because many bought it thinking it would be similarly good.
