The Age of Strife (OOC)

Dark times had befallen the Kingdoms of Niveria. About thirty years ago, summers became colder, and it spelled disaster for the kingdoms of men. Crops succumbed to frostbite, bringing forth great famines and plague that ravaged the lands, leaving the kingdoms in ruins. The easternmost kingdom of Araraq was the first to fall, with not only famine and plague killing it’s citizens, but also the living dead. People that fled to the neighboring lands told stories of the undead abominations rising from the greaves and slaughtering the people.  Nowadays, the order of Knights and Paladins, called the Lightsworn, a military arm of the church of the Holy Light, Niveria’s main religion, struggle to contain the undead menace, halting it’s advance on the neighboring lands.
The northernmost kingdom of Nornheim fared a bit better than it’s southron neighbour, yet famine in the northern land was the harshest, despite the Great Lakes providing a surplus of fish. Once the weather starting cooling down, the people of Nornheim started receiving unwanted guests in form of raiding parties from the nomadic tribesmen of the Northern Steppes, who seem to be migrating eastwards.
The highlands in the center of Niveria, called the Clanlands by the common folk, descended into chaos. The highlander clans were never united as a single kingdom, and the strongest clan claimed the title to rule it. While usually the moot of the highland clans was usually a competition between the champions of each clan in contests of strength, speed, wit as well as combat, with dwindling resources and famine with plague knocking on the door, a civil war erupted, with each clan dominating for the title. After ten years of conflict, Clan MacConnain emerged victorious. While grudges still remain, the head of MacConnains, Adair, called The Grudgebreaker strives to unite the highlanders under a single banner.
The kingdom of Westerlands had also been affected by the famines as well as the plague that has swept through the entire continent. Within the kingdom people had flocked to the church of Holy light, with many able men joining the Lightsworn, as well as those taking into fanaticism, forming flagellant sects or turning to other extremes, like hunting down magic users, since when the toubles began, some people blamed the mages of Leighbury, and in the first year of the famine and plague had destroyed the mage city and made the surviving mages go into hiding. These cults are highly frowned upon by the Grand Cardinal of the church, and as such an Inquisition was formed, to root out these “heretical” cults to ensure stability within the kingdom, and the neighboring lands as well.
The island antion of Aleria seems to be less hit by the famine, however, it was the place from where the plague had originated, and as such, the northernmost cities of Aleria had completely died out due to it. Rumors have it that some Alerian ships had sailed to the West, as supposedly, news lands are to be found there. Other rumors have it that Alerians are fighting a war against some sea folk, not seen anywhere else.
Finally there are the various people that seek gain, or are searching for answers and solutions. One such man, had appeared in Cragow, a once wealthy port of Westerlands, and is offering a handsome pay to those that will delve into a nearby Blackstone Fortress, an ancient structure left behind by an unknown civilisation. Considered to be either cursed or surrounded by other superstitions, these monolithical structures lied untouched by the hands of man for centuries, however, these desperate times do indeed call for desperate measures.

General info about the world: ((will add the missing images later on))
MAP (Made by this online tool and the magic of MS Paint.)

Dark/Low Fantasy setting. Medieval fantasy.
Races: Humans only. Few mythical beings exist, and there are a plethora of fantasyesque animals, but no dwarves, elves and whatnot. Dragons are EXTINCT, and the one shown on the map was the last one to die.

The human nations come of course in a variety of European(keep your triggering to yourselves, snowflakes) cultures.

The nations are:
(The coats of arms have been created using this online tool)

Westerlands – A classic run of the mill, western European style kingdom.

Nornheim – More or less Viking inspired nation. The Norns are tall and fair skinned.

Aleria – Something along the line of the great seafaring nations of Europe(your Dutch, Spanish and English)

Clanlands – Based on Scottish highlander clans, the common trait of a clanlander is that of pride and stubbornness.
Araraq(Now Destroyed, and no crest for it too.) - Before it's downfall it was a wealthy nation, on par with Westerlands, supposedly, before the tragic events they've been trading with nations found to the east. also based on western europe.

Other regions:
The Blackness – The Blackness is an old grove, with trees so tall and ancient, that little to no sunlight passes through the foliage. It is said to be inhabited by all sorts of wild beasts and creatures.
Northern Steppes – a mostly uninhabited region, the landscape consists of tundra, as well as herds of reindeer. There are few nomadic tribes inhabiting the region, and all of them are hostile to outsiders.

Major organisations in the world:
The Church of Holy Light – The most widespread religion on Niveria. The church oversees it’s worship. Some clans of the Clanlands worship their own gods, most namely ancestral heroes of old. The church of Holy light tolerates such worships, but for as long as it doesn’t go into the extremes(as in waging war against the church). The priesthood are not the adventurous type, preferring their temples, as well as travelling to give sermons, tending to the clergy schools and handing out charity.

The Lightsworn – the monastic order militant of the church, their duty is to protect the church and the believers from any hostile threat. Members of the order can either join a Crusade(one currently ongoing to cleanse the undead from Araraq), or travel the world freely. There are several subfactions within the order, which are:
Hospitalers – The healers of the order, proficient with both weapon and healing arts of the church
Paladins – Some of those who dedicated themselves to the study of the Light, are able to call forth some light based abilities in combat(i.e. can deal greater damage to undead for a short time).
Knight-Brothers – The rank and file troops of the order.

The Inquisition – Formed only recently, when the fanatic cults sprang up, the Inquisitors serve as a sort of secret police, and their main duty is to neutralise anyone who threatens the fragile balance within the kingdoms of man.

Other organisations such as the Thieves' Guild and random mercenary companies exist but they are minor, and can be made up on the spot. One such organisation:

The Grovekeepers - The dedicated "forest rangers" answering to the crown of Westerlands, their main duty is to tend to the woods of the kingdom, with tasks such as catching and executing poachers(their main task as of now), as well as other forestry related jobs.

Other info:
There are no gunpowder based ranged weaponry in the game. Only your bows, crossbows, slings, as well as throwing weapons, your throwing knives and javelins and whatnot.

Magic exists, but with the destruction of Leighbury, there are no more powerful mages. The PCs may cast only novice level spells(weakest combat magic, as well as your basic crap, like summoning hovering balls of light and similar) Weakest combat spell rule also applies to Lightsworn Paladins.

Healing magic comes from the Church of Holy light. Casting a healing spell, hastens the healing process of the injured.
The Paladin abilities are also, from the “novice” tier. Your weakest D&D, WoW and whatever else there are equivalents.

Magic items: Rare. One or two may pop up in one location or another, but otherwise they are rare. The PC can have some sort of an ancient heirloom passed down for 84651516516516 generations, but it can’t have any magical abilities.

Character sheet as of standart. The PCs can be either members of Lightsworn or the Inquisition, or be independent characters.

I would appreciate some more info on Araraq for the background of my character.

Name: Hassic of Lacre

Age: Early-thirties

Appearance: An average looking man with short and curly light-brown hair, with a slightly protruded lower lip.  Wears a plain grayish robe and a mantle, along with a leather satchel.  His weapon of choice is an arming sword.

Bio: Born into a family of rich landowners from central Araraq, Hassic enjoyed a life of luxury from a young age.  However, it would not last long as the disasters soon followed.  With the sudden appearance of the living dead, Hassic's family was faced with an unstoppable force which ultimately led to them fleeing to Westerlands.  Using all the wealth they had brought with them, they managed to start anew, and live a decent life despite the harsh conditions of the years that followed.  Hassic learned to read and write, and started working as a scribe and accountant upon reaching adulthood, helping his family stay afloat when their wealth started dwindling.  However, not everyone was content with them living better than most of the common folk, and jealous minds began plotting against Hassic's family.  They wanted their money, which, to them, seemed to be in endless quantities, and in one of the riots against the quarantines that sprung up because of the plague, opportunists saw a chance to claim the Lacre's fortune amidst the chaos, yet what they found was nothing compared to what they had hoped for.  The Lacre's house was demolished and Hassic's family killed by the angry mob. Hassic, having been employed at that time by a minor noble to keep track of his finances, returned home only to find it in ruins and his parents dead.  Vowing to avenge them, and to restore his family's name to former glory, of which he was told countless tales, he set out to gather the funds needed to start anew, disregarding the dangers that he'd potentially face.  With the news of an expedition into one of the Blackstone fortresses reaching Hassic, he knew that he could not let the opportunity pass.

Added a brief description of Araraq, hope it's enough of a baseline.

My Characters:
Name: Morn, called the Greymane.
Age: 35
Appearance: about 1.85m tall. Has grey hair(hence his nickname), tied into a braid, as well as a short beard, also braided(two braids) Green eyes. Morn wears a gambeson reinforced with bits of leather and riveted chainmail as a main form of armor. He also wears dark brown cotton pants an knee high leather boots, as well as a light fur cloak with a hood. On his person he also has a drinking horn, a canteen and several small satchels. On his armor, on the chest on the left side are two crests - One denoting his membership of the Grovekeepers, and the second of his noble house - A black bear holding an axe in a field of silver.
Skills: Morn is an able hunter, a master tracker, trapper and outdoorsman. Being a Grovekeeper has taught him how to live off the land
Weapons Morn carries a composite bow made from Alerian Ironwood and metal for ranged combat, and a regular arming sword. He also has a hunter's cleaver complete with a set of trimming knives, but the cleaver is more of a utility tool rahter than a weapon.
Background: Morn was born to an undisclosed minor noble house, which had been serving the kings of Westerlands as part of the Grovekeepers(which is your modern forest ranger equivalent) He, like many others grew up during the times when the famines were worst. During this time, Morn, like many others lost a lot of his kin. His younger sisters died only at the age of 5, few years after the famine began to spread. Never the less, he was inducted in the ways of the Grovekeepers, trained in archery, survival in the wilds and close quarters combat. When the famines began to spread the King of Westerlands issued an edict, limiting the amount of wild game to be hunted, thus making poaching a profitable, but dangerous trade, since the punishment for it was only one - execution. This made Morns early years as a Grovekeeper very difficult, as many were tempted to go and snare a deer or any other woodland beast to provide more sustenance than the meager rations distributed amongst the folk from the poor harvests that continued on for years.
But Morn wasn't content with being a simple Grovekeeper alone. In his time caring for the woods he has done many things, like killing off entire groups of poachers without loosing a single arrow, using only his wit and knowledge of the woods he guarded, and has developed a taste for adventure, for something more inriguing. He had also heard about someone gathering men for an expedition to a nearby Blackstone Fortress in Cragow, and decided to seek out the expedition.

Name: Aellis MacGuinne
Age: 30
Appearance Aellis is of slim build, around 1.70m tall. She has long, black hair, which is usually tied into a braid, and decorated with silver beads. She has gray eyes. She wears plain cotton shirt, leather pants and leather boots as normal garments. Her armor consists of a leather jacket, reinforced with riveted chainmail, along with metal shinguards. Aellis also has a little insignia with the Inquisition's crest, which she keeps in the inside pocket of her jacket.
Weapons: She carries several concealed daggers hidden on her person, one in the pouch toggle on her small leather pouch, another one in the heels of her boots, as well as one concealed as a flute. She also carries a Basilard as a main weapon.
Background: Aellis originally comes from the Clanlands, beig born into one clan of relative influence and power. When the civil war erupted in the Clanlands, her clan sided with those that opposed Clan MacConnain. Eventually due to fear of extermination, her clan yielded and accepted the rule of clan MacConnain. Around the same time, at about the age of 15, Aellis fled from an arranged marriage into the Westerlands, where she got caught up with the Thieves' guild, and over the next seven years she became a skilled burglar and infiltrator. Eventually her talent was noticed by the Inquisition(after she manage to break into the home of one high ranking inquisitor), who offered her a more respected position in their organisation. She accepted the job, and had become quite prominent amongst the ranks of Inquisition, even dispatching of several doomsday cult leaders, as well as routing out a cannibalistic cult within one city of Westerlands. Her latest assignment is to infiltrate and observe and report the dealings of the expedition to the Blackstone Fortress, as well as it's organiser, of whom the Inquisition has a special interest in.

But there are no trains on that world.

Haven't done roleplays in sometime, please let me know if there is something wrong with this. Character:

Name: Cassador "Tearblade" DeMaine

Age: 28

Appearance: Cassador is a tall man, standing at 1.8 meters. He has short yellow hair and blue eyes. He wears pieces of plate armor on his arms, legs and chest, combined with the chainmail armor. He also wears a short blue cloak with yellow outline, decorated by a symbol of the crescent moon. Cassador has a large shield and a long, steel sword as equipment. He also has a necklace, reminding him about his wife.

Skills: Being a former soldier of the military, Cassador is a strong, capable fighter, proficient with certain weapons. He is trained with lots of offensive and defensive abilities. However, he does not cast any magic at all.

Biography: Cassador was born near Lordsport. As a child, Cassador often helped his parents maintaining the crops, and oftem dreamt of visiting other cities. One summer, his parents and their farm was burnt down; Cassador, who was 15 at the time, had little choice but to join the army, per his uncle's recommendations. After 10 years of training, fighting and working hard in the military, Cassador eventually fell in love with a young maiden named Allysa. The two grew very close, to the point where they married and even had a child, Aria.

Two years after, Cassador, who came back to Lordsport after a week of absence (to investigate the northern islands), he was told that his wife was killed by raiders, who invaded his manor and stole a lot of valuables. Cassador wept for the death of his wife for days and quit his job as a soldier. (It was then when he was dubbed as "Tearblade" by other soldiers.) Visiting his parents' and wife's graves, Cassador met up with his uncle. Fearing for his own sanity, and that he could harm his own child, Cassador let his uncle take care of the manor and Aria. Cassador went to buy the armor and the sword, starting a job as a mercenary.

Cassador went on a ship to north, hoping there is something that can pull him out of the misery, lest he takes his own life; he has nothing else left to lose.

Name: Florentina Belmonte

Age: 25

Appearance: She has back length dark brown hair and brown eyes. She stands 1.6m tall. She wears a white, hooded, long coat with a brass mask covering the upper part of her face. She wears a white shawl over the coat. Under the coat she wears a shirt, white pants, and a pair of riders gloves and boots. Over her pants and boots she has steel plates strapped.

WeaponsA large steel falchion with a brass coloured hand guard and a steel plated book chained to her belt.

Background: Florentina was the 7th daughter to a man 2nd removed from a destitute, Alerian, barony. Learning to read was one of the few privileges her position afforded her and she spent her childhood as a stable hand. When she was 16 she was married to a rich youth from an established banking family. They were naught together for more than two months when her husband driven by a spot of spontaneous zealotry joined the Lightsworn and went on crusade into Ararq. Their marriage lasted two more years before he met misfortune on the battlefield and died.

Shortly afterward plague swept into Aleria and Florentina was amongst the infected. Despite being on death's door for weeks she survived; though her family would later argue her mind didn't. She spent a year wandering her adopted families manor mumbling and spontaneously crying. Growing tired of her antics, her adopted family sent her back to her family in the hope that she would recover. Instead, shortly after returning, she ended up sneaking away with one of her cousins to join the Lightsworn herself. Her family is not sure why she did it and it is even more likely she isn't herself but she ended up becoming a relatively accomplished crusader.

Now a paladin five years she has taken to wandering the northern kingdoms to ply her craft. Having heard of an expedition to a Blackstone fortress she could think of no better place to go.
