online gaming issues
i received an hcm from a user that wanted this message to be posted. since i can't find the online gaming thread, i'll post it here.

The network thread in the Heroes 3 subforum seems outdated as well - no one has responded in it for a while!
can anyone who plays multiplayer online help dadlatan? thanks in advance.

There's a topic about this in the Library section, can be found here. Perhaps that topic can also provide the answers being asked for; unfortunately, I never play(ed) Heroes 3 online, so I cannot answer it myself.

that's why i couldn't find the thread. i was looking in the wrong subforum. i guess that's why it's called "library of enlightenment".

Hi! Thanks for making the topic, Fred.
I saw the big sticky thread, but it seemed that it hadn't gained any attention in a long while, and the information in it seemed a bit outdated, so I figured it'd be easier for me to make a new thread for the extra attention (I really need to get it to work in 2 weeks), but I couldn't, due to my insufficient post count.
Is there anyone who knows what I can do to fix this? I've also tried messaging H3 (SoD) streamers on twitch and had one response (enabling directplay, turning off firewalls) and it didn't work. Any ideas what the problem might be? Any active Heroes 3 multiplayer players around these days?

EDIT: I could ping the other people in the hamachi network just fine, but we couldn't find each others games no matter what we tried. We tried both with the normal game and with the HD mod. In GameRanger, we only got the main menu screen as a loading screen for a long while until an error message appeared. I've also tried running as administrator and running with different compability settings, tried both turning off the firewall and allowing programs (both h3, gameranger, hamachi, etc) through it, etc. We were 3 people trying to play last time, and we waited out the load screen in GameRanger about 20 times, and it actually worked once (but then my other friend was afk so we had to restart due to no late joiners). After that, nothing has seemed to work. Anyone that can help?

For the gameranger loading screen problem, you can try deleting (or renaming, if you want a backup) the file "DPWSOCKX.DLL" in the heroes 3 folder. This was a HD mod issue, if you had it even with original game, then it is probably not the same problem. But no harm trying.
For hamachi, when you start new multiplayer>tcp/ip, it shows a IP address. If it is not your hamachi ip, you have to change the priority of the network adapter.(https://secure.logmein.com/welcome/webhelp/EN/CentralUserGuide/LogMeIn/t_hamachi_nw_change_adapter.html)
