I didn't lose my sleep but it sure got me nervous. We have absolutely no idea who was behind this. I talked with a friend today and it seems to be more common than I thought.
As for stevie, he is our resident captain obvious. He always knows.

It's much easier in this age where everyone willingly shares a lot of private information on social media, ones you don't share can be hacked if you click some baits and even before the internet, professional scammers had many methods of collecting information, some even checked out your garbage regularly, reading notes you took and so on.

Weird.
It would probably be enough to make me lose sleep. It's not just a generic scam. You were violated personally by somebody that knew details about you. Hopefully it was just somebody remotely harvesting data from Facebook, etc. That's probably how it happened.
I hope nothing further comes of it.
This might be a stupid question since I'm the first person to ask it, but if your sister had wrecked and killed somebody, why/how would that be fatal to your mother's business? I don't follow.

It is worse than that, they called mother on her cellphone. But someone could have found that from one of her business cards or a product offer list. Chances are we became a target exactly because we had a company, that might have led the scammer to believe that we had money in our hands. Haha.. As if.
About what you asked. This being a family business, I doubt it would not look well if one of the family was irresponsible enough to drive without a licence, ignore the street lights and cause a death. It's not like I believe everyone would see it that way but I wouldn't bet on this being the good kind of publicity.

Yo I'm sorry you had to go through that. People are the worst sometimes, however I am elated to hear that nothing really consequential happend. That is not to trivialize the aweful position your mother was put in, but atleast "all" that happend was a big scare.
Man if that happend to me and I was then unable to contact my sister I'd lose my snow. When the truck drove through the Weihnachtsmarkt in Berlin and I was unable to reach my sister or parents for a couple of hours (for completely unrelated innocent reasons) I was never so scared in my entire life, I'd take a special sort of iceman to stay calm in any such circumstance.
I hope your sister is doing ok? Except for the obvious shock of having been targeted in a way by this special brand of vermin.

She was more like, wtf guys you didn't call me immediately? In my defense, as far as I knew she had already contacted my mother and was too shocked to talk coherently. Needless to say she's fine, she just wanted details so that she could warn others.
On a lighter note, a friend of a friend received a similar call from her 'son'. She didn't have a son
