Necropolis campaign, the worst? story and faction
Hello
I tried the necropolis campaign, and i noticed several problem for this faction and its campaign.
First as a faction it sounds kinda weak, the system of nécromancie is bad, always need to select troop to rez after each battle even for 2 faking stupid skeletton.
I preferend the HOMM 5 systeme, with black energie which allow you to rez a unit elite or not with a price and limited in quantitity.
Then i dont find creature or magic very powerfull, the vampire has no more "no tolérate counter attack" which is an heresie when you see all creature with this skill.
Lich are so usless, only ranged unite, and doesnt have the rank of HOMM3 or the skills of HOMM5 when druides from sylvains got 2 skills.
Ghost are no more immaterial target, which was very good idea and logical idea from HOMM5 making them powerfull for low ranked creature;
Then the campaigne;
We have a problème, we play necro only on two map, first one is just a rush map,; shorter than the other first map from other campaign, the second is an undead map with not much challenge and no other opponent than undead (quiet limited to test the power of the necro on other faction, if there is no other faction to face)
Map 3, we play sylvains, really
Map 4 we have no ressources at all, no mine, and we have no choice to take academy fort to stard really to play, with adar malik which is more an heros from academy than nécromancer.
We dont play the same heroe in each map, first is anasatsya,
then the the old woman becoming vampire
then with play ludmilla in map 3 with another hero that we dont see again, and map 4 we play again adar malike without the heriophante which was the supposed main hero from map 2
this campaign is chaotique, we can t make a natural progress of hero if that is changing every time,
for academy campaign that was différent, cause we tells 3 différent story with one unique heros for the map adapted on this map,
but for necro this is really messing up.
If the other campaign gave me the feel to play the faction that they show, the necropolis one gave me the reverse effect.
what is your mind about it?

There is.. not much I remember actually. That is surprising considering how little time it's been. At the same time, Vein's campaign from H6 remains more vivid in my memory. That was an awesome guy.
As far as H7 goes, sylvan, haven, stronghold and academy campains were pretty likable. Too easy but decent otherwise.

I mean almost everything about H7 necro was utter garbage. The one thing I will say I liked about their campaign was how the spider cult basically imploded upon itself, and necro was actually portrayed as a villainous faction, or at least morally gray, which hasn't happened since Markal's campaign from like 12 years ago.

Yes they made them kinda cool guy since HOMM5, the idea is interesting, a way to show that the death is not something defeintivily bad, but something belong to the cycle of life
Markal campaign made me mad, cause i leveled up the necromancer girl cause i found it cool her story, and well you have to sacrifice her and end it with markal, so had to restart everything,
this way how they are drawn in this H7 is weird, less interesting that the previous game.
thx for answers

I must admit that the H7 Necromancy system is closer to my heart than H5 one was. I considered it too unbalanced and especially in later game phases, the issue was that you exhausted the Dark Energy on one combat and could not resurrect units anymore until the next week.
Compared to that, H7 finally offers more balance. That is how I imagine true Necropolis: Numbers of weak troops increasing quickly, quantity over quality.
However, I agree that units should be more diverse. The biggest problem I have is ghosts, not being much different from skeletons. (I will address some of the issues you mention in UCP 1.1)
The story of the campaign was not much appealing to me, it was too pessimistic and obvious, it lacks some surprising moments, imo the worst H7 campaign in terms of the storyboard. As soon as I replay the game, I may change my view on it
