Back to your old self again, Djive. Good . I do think the HOMMIII graphics are much better than the HOMMIV, but I think the HOMMII are even better. Stuck I may be, but I like it here. I'm just a sucker for atmosphere, and I think that has been the decreasing element in the sequels after II.
As for your other points, I agree almost wholeheartedly. I also enjoy the hero animations. I think they look good (behold! a word of praise from the ever negative, super judgemental DonGio! Celebrate!), and it's cool when my barbarian kicks tens of minotaurs to the ground!
Play well

1. Leprechauns: Only negative thing is they have low movement, otherwise they have great defense with luck and may give luck to any other creature, they're great team players.
2. Satyrs: One of the worst level 2 creatures to fight if you don't have disabling spells. They're very good against might creatures and heroes. If you don't agree try leveling your army against Satyrs when your spell caster hero is still level 1. You will get owned.
3. White tigers: Great movement, great speed, FIRST STRIKE, decent hp. What more can you ask? I almost always chose them instead of the expensive and slow elves.
4. Mantises: They're here for a balance purpose. Imagine your enemy chose black dragons and you chose faerie dragons. What can you do? There is also a spell Anti magic that makes everyone immune to faerie attacks. Preserve also doesn't get easy access to nobility so they should have some way to recruit extra creatures. BTW I love the design of these.

So true about the Satyrs. They can be troublesome in high numbers and I myself have underestimated them before more than once.
I'll add also that air elementals are great in very small numbers for soaking up retaliations because they are fast.

I've always considered satyrs one of the worst units. even if their mirth spell might allow them to surpass units such as tigers for example, they spend a turn casting it, and aren't particularly fast either, they just get owned by shooters. imps are a bigger threat, for the main reason that they will at least most likely manage to reach you.
in another hand, a tier 2 I've already underestimated are gargoyles. they aren't strong, but they are fast... they can rarely stand against your army, but will still kill low level heroes
the most awesome about leprechauns is that you can summon them. and it's like 2 spells in one, since you then use them to cast fortune. 2 mana used for a summon + a spell which normally costs 3 mana.

Yeah, actually and obviously any level 2s that are fast can cause you more losses than expected. Gargoyles and ghosts are both quite fast.
Tigers are also troublesome too, along with vampires I find that they often move twice when controlled by the computer because I think it waits, then because of their speed can get 2 moves and they get right into you. Also nomads, harpies, and air elementals can be troublesome units too, its not just the Satyrs. Out of the non-shooters anyway.

yeah, but look at the tiger stats. it must be the strongest tier 2 unit. or maybe it is the golem. of course you expect them to be tough. the nomad is just a slightly weaker but faster white tiger.
oh and one that can easily be underestimated (it has quite low stats) but still cause heavy losses : the efreet. they are very annoying.
the most dangerous neutral overall is probably still the faerie dragon. fortunately I rarely had to fight large stacks of them, the defense skill is useless against them.

Efreets are quite annoying yes because of their fire shield and also their speed. But I don't usually underestimate them myself because I know that they are dangerous. I'm usually careful enough to attack them and make sure I have disabling/slow spells and strong enough shooters.

Leprechauns, Satyrs - it's like Fortune/Mirth with an extra meat shield. They eat up retaliations, they obscure line of sight, they stop enemy advance. Especially useful on defense. Really, the spell could summon 1 of them and they would do their purpose.

and considering how few creatures level 1 / 2 spells summon, that's more or less all you can do. which is still better than many spells of those levels
