Most people are hardly paragons of stability, emotional, mental or otherwise. Allowing everyone to have a gun is an accident waiting to happen..

The national guard already affords the protections of the 2nd amendment. Regular civilians not in the national guard (i.e. militia) should not be owning firearms.
