Starting Heroes?
I was curious what every ones starting heroes are for each faction, both might and magic? Mine are;
Castle: Might–Valeska Magic–Adelaide
Rampart: Might–Ivor Magic–Melodia
Tower: Might–Fafner Magic–Theodorus
Inferno: Might–Rashka Magic–Calid
Necropolis: Might–Tamika Magic–Sandro
Dungeon: Might–Dace Magic–Jeddite
Stronghold: Might–Shiva Magic–Gundula
Fortress: Might–Korbac Magic–Styg
Conflux: Might–Pasis Magic–Ciele
Cove: Might–Jeremy Magic–Casmetra
So what's everyone else's first pick?

You can't possibly be actually PICKING melodia, no matter the type of game / map you play. That hero is more useless than mighty gorgons against ghost dragons.
My picks are...
Castle: I never play cheat factions
Rampart: Kyrre, Mephala (everyone else is irrelevant)
Tower: Neela and Fafner (cause I play WoG and in WoG they are freaking good)
Inferno: Rashka (because of WoG)
Necro: I don't play cheat factions, cause I hate them with passion
Dungeon: not among my favorite factions, but if I really must play Dungeon so be it! Gunnar and no one else
Stronghold: Dessa, and if Dessa not available, Gundula (no, I don't like Crag Hack. Stacking offense and nothing but offense is retarded and boring, so...)
Fortress: Tazar (everyone else is irrelevant because Tazar is too good of a hero, and cause DEFENSE is my thing. I am only able to win in Heroes 3 if I can stay alive, so....)
Conflux: geee, I wonder which hero is my favorite....
Cove: what even is this?!? ... Just kidding: I have heard of Cove, but since I've never played HotA...

I've always played for fun rather than competition, and I rarely play some of the towns, but here are the ones I usually choose:
Castle: Might – Valeska Magic – Adela
Rampart: Might – Kyrre Magic – Elleshar
Tower: Might – Neela Magic – Aine
Inferno: Might – Pyre Magic – Ayden
Necropolis: Might – Isra Magic – Thant
Dungeon: Might – Gunnar Magic – Alamar
Stronghold: Might – Crag Hack Magic – Dessa
Fortress: Might – Drakon(*gasp*  ) Magic – Voy (only with water maps)
Conflux: Might – Monere Magic - Grindan
I have played HotA a little bit too, but I don't know the Cove heroes that much.
And when I was younger I used to go for some heroes such as Vokial, Xyron, Edric or Kalt just because I liked their portraits. Ah, memories.

Also,  for picking Monere
Last but not least, Dessa is magic hero??? Yeah, I know what you mean, but it sounds so weird for Barbarians to have "magic" heroes....

But Crag is hilarious in the SoD campaigns  ...and as a starting hero, well, I don't really like the other Barbarians too much. Dessa's a Battle Mage, yeah.

I never play campaigns in any game (except for Subnautica which is a massive campaign the entire game), so I wouldn't know how hilarious he is. But he still pisses me off. I have played him once and got like 12 attack and 2 defense at level 9, or 10. And that's been the last time I have played him...
Anyway, Gundual acquires primary attributes much more uniformly than CH. Might want to give him... her.... whatever that hero is, a try

Fair enough. Maybe you'll want to check the campaigns for H3 someday.
Gundula is actually a Battle Mage (Magic hero) too. Barbarians (Might heroes) are: Gretchin, Gurnisson, Krellion, Shiva, Jabarkas, Crag Hack, Yog and Tyraxor.
And yes it is sort of strange that the Barbarian town has magic heroes. They did try to correct that in Heroes 4.

Always random VS AI, makes for the most fun and unpredictable experience.
If playing competitive I would pick a Logistics, Offense or Armorer specialist or Galthran or Sir Mullich if allowed.

Galthran is the best creature specialist in the game, not only does he get the biggest bonus of all creature specislists, but he also produces them plus he starts with a lot of them.
Isra, Vidomina and Thant are also great though.

I don't see a need to specify 2 heroes, since I can only pick one
Castle: Random. There is no one I like.
Rampart: Kyrre or Mephala (tough choice)
Tower: Aine (need every bit of gold I can get)
Inferno: Random (many are acceptable, but none stands out)
Necro: Isra (I know Galthran is better)
Fortress: Tazar
Stronghold: Dessa (80%) or Hack (20%)
Dungeon: Gunnar
Conflux: Grindan or Luna

@Drakon-Deus... you just reminded me why I never played barbarians in H4 (magic is my thing, and since stronghold had no magic heroes I almost never played that faction. I did recruit cyclops everytime I got the chance, though...)

Yes, he is. In the past there have been extensive discussions on that topic, and the result was, that Galthran is better. Because of the increased stats his skeletons do more damage and last longer. Isras superior numbers can't make up for that. Not to mention the increased speed, that is so much needed.

I do lol. I like the early fortune. Plus see was one of the first heroes I played, so nostalgia factor I suppose .

I am well aware that Cove is not an official faction. I have not treated it as an official faction here. However, I added it regardless because I play it. Thanks.

Yeah, nostalgia is a big factor
Rampart is the faction that has introduced me to Heroes 3 (the first town I have played), so, naturally, it's become my favorite (and it still is like 55% favorite, compared to Fortress 45% favorite)

I will be honest. There's probably 15 years or more since I last played SoD (the only H3 game I have ever played besides WoG). After my friend has introduced me to WoG I haven't played anything else ever since, but... from what I can remember indeed I haven't played Tower because of the snowty skills that Neela has (Neela is the only Tower hero I play, and every once in a while Fafner, just for the fun of it).
But yeah, the skills of Tower heroes are such a deterrent that it's not even funny to even give that faction a try xD
And it's a pity, because both Naga Queens and Titans are the best, and some of the most exquisite (design-wise) creatures in the game. They're so iconic that it's a sacrilege that they haven't been kept throughout all versions of this franchise in their respective design.
If I'll ever be able to create the game I'm having in mind Titans and NQs will be part of my Demigods faction, they will have high authority in my game, and I have even come up with a cool specialty for the Titan: phasing (I'm not gonna say what phasing does because I want to keep my secrets to myself, but people with creativity will probably figure out what this special does)
