when I played WOG recently enemy's Resistance turned my Nagas into ammo carts after battle...other time my Dendroids stepped into moat and stuck in there and I lost control over them until the end of the battle...

Wog is customizable, user does what he wants, adds what he wants, removes what he wants. Wog is like linux, it's all up to the user, he can make something beautiful as much as he can make something horrible. Hota is more like Windows, although a Windows that actually works.

Those are buttons to create colored town names. The mod was designed before HD mod and had the purpose of helping sort your towns by colored names for faster town portal.
After HD mod it still provided help, see how easy is to identify/rename towns for fast recruiting
Hota, personally I don't play it at all exactly for the reason above, no way to modify anything, zero modding capability. Great graphics for sure, but many people just want different experience after so many years playing vanilla, less bugs, less of same tedious actions and lack of interface tweaks.
OF course, I would not criticize Hota for what they didn't intended to, but I don't see the point neither into criticizing WoG for what is not.

You don't modify a masterpiece, even if it has some faults here and there. You add to it or tweak it a little.
No, there is no one who will convince me to play WoG, and just for the record I did try it and it was a mess (not because it was an earlier version, it was plain ugly and simply looked half-assed).
Ofc this is my personal opinion, and I'm glad people enjoy WoG as it is one of the reasons the game is still kept alive after so many years.

Blob, no one is trying to convince you to play wog, but your critics on it are not valid. That a sprite is ugly is irrelevant, you can just trash that sprite and replace it with a hota one...
At strict minimum Wog > Sod since you can turn wog into pure Sod + add all the interface tweaks for better quality of life. In terms of purism, you can find more modifications on Hota depending on the wog version you're using.

Funny that he mentions a masterpiece should never be modified, while Hota basically broke 100% compatibility with SoD maps. Tsss..

I subscribe to the list of players that like WoG.
Been playing it for 15+ years, and after all these years I still haven't at least tried all of the options available, because I'm too pleased with the ones I chose. And even though I've been playing with the same settings for so many years I still haven't learn all of the ins and outs of that particular configuration 
I have never tried HotA, but even so, I dare say things like...
1) HotA is for the player, WoG is for the fan
2) Whoever likes HotA more than WoG has not matured enough to play H3. Once they will mature they will play the "adult" version of H3, which is obviously WoG
I had one more quote that I wanted to post, but I forgot it xD ... I made my point, though.

Oh boy, the old HoTA Vs WoG argument. I swear, I can't take a step without it rearing its ugly head in the vicinity.
Different people look for different things in their games. Some look for unlimited customisation and modding opportunities. Some look for good graphics. Some wish to remember their childhood. I, for instance, look for hot Craig Hack X Gelu hentai in the game files. Never found any, but , still, does it hurt to try?

Actually, both are from and for the fans.
Then Wog is as much for the player than for the modder, while Hota remains for the player, with emphasis on multiplayer.

Incorrect.
WoG has some hardcoded changes that are not reversible from options menu.

It's so sad the game like HoMMIII hasn't been developed. I respect it so much but I know all it inside out. Nothing can wonder me. That's why I started searching for new games to get new emotions.
