Yeah Rampart could be the only 10 woods, even if cheap. It depends on map like Realm of Chaos in impossible level. Every towns have different the economic system. Dungeon needs much gems or you can't build dragons, it takes much time etc also thelazy said Dungeon needs a total of 82 sulfurs to complete town. Ok remember also debt, plague and misleading.

Rampart is clearly stronger than Dungeon in most case. A rampart with teleport may be devastating.

It is just one of the advantages of Rampart over Dungeon but effect is great. At a certain point defense and HP becomes playing much more important roles and it is proven with this fact that why Tazar starts outperforming Crag Hack in late games.
Rampart will most likely clear up maps more efficiently and rapidly than Dungeon due to awesome lvl1-3 units and it causes snowball effect. Also yes Dendroids are the most suitable units for teleport in Rampart as everyone know.

Dungeon is sadly stronger than Rampart. Black dragons have better stats than Gold ones (only gold advantage is starting first). Have doubling mana. Two shooters with no melee penalty (and harpy hags) instead of one weak in melee. Faster creatures. Better Grail bonus. Extra recruiting with Summon Portal.
Most important of all: Artifact Merchant.
And I say this as a Rampart fan, but Rampart is not that strong.
Only Rampart advantage is economics on a long game (Treasury and pond). Even than it will be mostly underwhelming, you need extra towns for it to work to the max.

??? Gold Dragons have 27 ATT and DEF, also 17 speed, while Black Dragons have 25 ATT and DEF and 15 speed. The only stat of the Black Dragon that is better than Gold Dragon's are the HPs.
Also, almost all Rampart tiers are better than Dungeon's. Unicorns are better than Scorpicores, Elves way better than the eyes, dwarves better than Hags, Centaurs way better than trogs, only debatable things are Dendroids vs Minotaurs (although, 8 trees kinda crush 6 minotaurs), and Pegasi vs Medusae. But other than this, at least 5 tiers from Rampart are better than Dungeon's equivalent tiers. Not to mention the heroes: ok, Kyrre and Gunna Cancel each other, maybe even Ryland and Dace, although - truth being told - you kind of prefer to play Ryland due to Diplomacy, the mages cancel each other (Alamar and Jeddite vs Elleshar). The only other good hero that Dungeon has is Shakti, but other than these Rampart has way better heroes: Thorgrim, Mephala, even Clancy is more desirable than Synca... I'm not sure you're really a Rampart fan

Dragons are overrated, people just consider stats but not the whole gameplay features. Over the length of a game, your priority is to keep your good creatures alive or dragon's immunity to friendly spells (both healing and boosting) is making that void. Sure there is the fictional situation where you walk around with 1 dragon, have 99 SP and Armageddon in your book, but let's face it, most of time it remains a fiction and you get your a$$ spanked.

Gold Dragons only have 16 speed, are vulnerable to Implosion, but can't be resurrected. They are not that great tbh.

Technically you can try Sacrifice, but it's obviously a hell lot harder to get and use.
Dragons are overrated, I agree.

Overrated, they are for sure. But so are all other level 7 creatures, which means it all comes down to preference. Personally, I dislike all types of dragons (except maybe for the Faerie ones, which I find interesting and good looking), but if I had to choose between Gold and Black I'd definitely go with the gold ones, because...
1) nostalgia (Rampart is the town that's introduced me to H3, and the first time I ever saw what a dragon is / how it looks like, and this has obviously stuck with me);
2) I simply like their colour more than the colour of the black dragons;
3) they are faster, which is a little bonus, but a bonus nonetheless;
4) they are better;
Also, yeah, they have 16 speed, I made a typo earlier. Still good, though...

The resurrection part of Sacrifice does'nt work on Gold Dragons, only the sacrifice part.

Yes but isn't it already better to cast implosion to enemy creatures rather than trying to resurrect your creatures (assuming enemy is casting implosion to your creatures) since implosion deal more damage than resurrection may revive.

Yes if you have Implosion and mana.
I still prefer to win all battles with as few casualties as possible, so Resurrection/Animate Dead is always important.

It's usually way better to cast mass haste or slow over implosion anyway.

But too good a Prayer. Silver Pegasi gets speed. Opponent has difficult to place Berserk. When Gold Dragons turn, the Druid can respond back. It's much more effective. But you need also Tactics. And/Why Ramparts Ranger can't learn Fire also Dungeons Overlord can't learn Water. Those are too good dragons. So Black Dragon has less 2 attack and defense and 1 speed, but complete immune. Dungeon isn't bad. You learn constantly. Example of Fortress. Remember use more heroes, for switch a better fighter also Rampart has to look immune artifacts. Stronghold would have wanted first. ETC

Just to weigh in on the Gold vs Black Dragons, you can cast Magic Mirror on Gold Dragons so you can give them a rather good chance to reflect an Implosion cast on them. Even better chance if you have Resistance.

Magic Mirror, does anyone ever actually use that spell?
It is one of my least used spells and I even made it a mass spell at Expert Air Magic...

I only used it when I play Rampart. Resistance + Magic Mirror can really help beef up a Gold Dragon's magical resistance. Although, HotA kind of ruined this strategy when they changed the Resistance skill. So I don't really do it anymore.
