The New Heroes
To begin with, with the new heroes I mean the heroes in game, not the whole game, now subject. The heroes can have different classes as all of you know. They also have multi-classes like the Ninja and the Warlord BUT they have no difference between the characters except from the skills. It should be more things that differed from class to class. A ninja for example, (death magic + scouting) should look like a ninja. If you have a thief and make it ninja it looks ok but if you have a necromancer that becomes ninja, that doesnīt look too good. They removed so many creatures since the last game so why didnīt they make some models and animations for more heroes (the characters)? Please post your opinions about this here.

They probably thought of it, but too many classes means too much work.

It could be cool if developers create tools in the editor to create/modify the look of the heroes (and creatures why not ???) or things like that. I know it's hard & they have no time but if you look at counter-strike & many others games, it's possible !!!
Perhaps they could feature the option which put a picture instead of the face of your hero. This should be nice.
I know some people will find this is a bad idea. It's obvious that it could make the game totally different, perhaps loose its charms & values. But it could be really fun too !!! & (nobody is obliged to downloads modifications)

correct me if im wrong, but doesnt:
more work = more beauty = more interest in game = bigger profits = greed = more work ???? i doubt it would take too much time to make all of the different castle type heroes different models. i dont know how much there are those classes, but i think 50 orso...? there are six castles:
6*50=300 models
I mean...if they made THAT FEW creatures they could balance it up with more hero models???

I've pondered this myself. I wish that the Advanced classes had their own animations. Because, if you think about it, it is possible for your hero to start out as a Necromancer and end up as a Cardinal. Matthy, your calculations are wrong.
37 adv. classes * about 200 frames per class = 7,400 frames for them to create into animations. Keep in mind that 37 is more than half of the amount of animations they have for creatures, and almost half of the amount of total combat animations in the game, including starting class animations. A daunting task, however, it would be worth it.

Err.. it sometimes happens that 'a lot' of extra work for cosmetics just isn't viable. This typically happens when a dev has limited funds and it isn't justified to spend all that extra work if it doesn't considerable improve the game. It also doesn't help if upper management tries to push the game out the door. A game can only be delayed so long, and then they have to stop adding new features and work on bug fixing, otherwise the game will never release. Typically what they wanted to do but didn't have the time or resources to do it is added in expansion packs.
Other developers do it too. They gotta draw a line somewhere between what needs to be in and what can come in later. To animate 48 classes would require a lot of designs and I can tell you not many of them will look unique. The spell casters will just wear robes and hold a staff, the warriors will wear armor and wield a sword, etc..
I would love to have seen 48 unique designs but I'm not surprised that idea didn't make it in.

no...i wasnt talking about frames...i was talking about bleah...six different castles and all that thing. i didnt mention frames yada yada *yawns because his right* but serious...modelling those bodies is easy. since they have already made body textures and they have all those damn game motors etc, the bodys act exactly the same anyway etc. so they only have to drawn skins...37*6 of them... so they have to draw 222[?] pairs of clothes. aint that hard 10 skins a day and one month to complete...

And since 3DO laid off so many people, you can tell they were short on funds and couldn't afford to even keep their staff much less render a whole heap of hero models for cosmetic purposes.

Not just 48,but 48*2=96--remember,male&female.
Perhaps a cloth-changing system will be a interesting idea,as... Diablo and so on

For advanced classes, though, they might not just change the clothes--the Archmage's eyes might glow, or the Witch King might have some sort of tattoo, or the Shadow Mage look half human, half lich...you get the point.

Problem is they can change class multiple times.. So the half lich-half human Shadow Mage might become a fully human Witch King later on, which might be hard to explain..

It would be best to all I think, if they could just make it to the editor.. you could make those heroes look as you like, and it shouldn't be so much work to neither side, the gamers NOR the developer!

I really want a sort of "Create-A-Hero" feature. I've talked about this before; create your own hero in Map Editor, import your own portrait, make name, biography, starting skills, and then choose if the Hero can be available globally or only on that particular map.
