depends on the map obviously.
If they all come at you at once on an S map, you're obviously screwed.
If there's some spacing allowing you to rush one without another dude backstabbing you instantly, it's not even that hard. AI is notoriously bad at keeping you away from capturing his towns day 7, and will play passively with a large army advantage at times.
So if you build some basic powerstack week 1 end get AI's town fast (he will develop it a bit for you in the meantime), use the resources gathered to buy troops and rush another one... you can quickly snowball into victory.
Hota campaign "Terror of the deep" is a good training on impossible because on maps 1-3 you either rush or die. Especially on map 2.

@OhforfSake Thank you for making the summary.
@PhoenixForever This is one of the reasons why I believe your gameplay sucks...

OhforfSake said: In other words, I can only imagine the spell being relevant at a late stage in a very even final battle, and even then I suspect I might have missed something obvious, since it is not a spell I consider a priority. More realistically, I imagine the might hero's overwhelming creatures will have the battle determined within few rounds.
Implosion deals damage ONCE.
Elementals do damage each round, unless they are killed.
To kill them, you actually need to waste attacks that could damage "real troops".
Elementals can also soak retals, block units, etc.
Also, this spell is completely broken against the AI because the battle will not end when your units are dead so you can overwhelm the most absurd amount of enemies with no units at all. While this isn't important in PvP or even in most maps, the use of this in campaigns is absurd and allows you week1 rushes against enemies even with typical +5 population armies given to them for free (typical in final Hota campaign missions) which would normally stomp your butt before you could do anything meaningful with Implo or Shower.
I asked HOTA team to make the player auto-lose if summoned elementals are his only stack to reduce the abuseable nature of this spell in the campaigns. No matter what the campaign brings, a player that can summon 200 elementals per round will roflstomp it week 1. And it's pretty easy to get that SP and KL/intelligence in a campaign where there's a ton of boosters to collect throughout earlier missions.
As for PvP, you can find some of the games where players use summon elemental on youtube (pro/world class JC), but I cannot stand watching other people playing games so I'd have to luckily find one and it's hard to pinpoint the final battle on a 5 hour long video. No, for some reason it's usually not in the last 20 mins, lol.

Heres a video of Summon Elemental in the final fight. Xenofex manages to archive an draw by summoning which would otherwise be a lost game.
Fight starts around ~9h:50min
Also I have to conclude that by watching these streams Resistance is nearly a mandatory skill on JC in final fights, otherwise Summoning or Implosion will rek you.

Yep, but that's JC, the SP attainable there is insane + tomes / hat are pretty much possible to get every time you play it.
JC has a rather specific "meta" of its own.
Getting resistance on JC is very good. I've been wondering how good Thorgrim would be there. Never tried it, but with some arties he may come close to completely wrecking opponent's SP.

As far as creatures go, a pop of 200 units means:
Earths are slowest, but have a distinct advantage in their offensive and staying potential.
They are for all means and purposes a glorified tier 3. The closest thing statistically to them is a royal griffin.
or maybe Iron golems. Even better.
Bad? I'd say not quite.
Summoning 200 iron golems would be quite nice, no? And Earth Elementals are +40% damage above those.

I guess we can conclude once again Earth Magic is superior.
Though I like summoning Fire Elementals too, 2 more speed than Earth El., fire immune and still pretty durable. (Just really hard to see when it is their turn.)

Even spamming summoned elemental does not make magic heroes nowhere as good as mediocre might heroes. Spamming them sounds too powerful but are simply dependent too much things and will end up with weaker main.
There is a reason why this game is called "might and magic" and not the other way around. The huge imbalances between might and magic heroes are alredy deeply discussed and nothing can really convince me magic heroes are as good as might heroes.

Earth Elementals are also immune to Armageddon, even though the description does not state that.

Well, implosion is better for hit and run, and also benefits from orb of silt (+50% earth dmg).
