Is artifact merchants worth it?
Considering building cost and artifact costs.

what I'll say might sound weird, but... the harder the game is the more this building is worth it... at least in the games that I play. If you play on easy you will rarely feel the DIRE need for a specific item, but when you play on 200% and you are c0ckblocked by strong monsters in your native area that building is among my top priorities when I play Conflux (I almost never play Dungeon)
So, yeah, it's worth it

Strange, when I consider the cost of Artifact Merchants I'm generally thinking about selling what I don't need, not in buying anything...

I always look regularly, as they refill after a few weeks, so I often end with a few cornucopias in long games. Also good for getting some missing parts of the statue.

yep. Corcnu, statue, boots/gloves, vial/rings, and necklace of swiftness is what I usually buy from it, as well

Also worth mentioning that AI uses it intensively, it buys everything.
Thus this can screw setups of the map, but as human player is the first to be able to purchase, do it when you see immunity granting artifacts. You don't want that Boss with 5 millions manticores get the pendant of second sight or badge of honor then become literally invincible, while he wasn't supposed to.
Keep those artifacts far away from its hands.

Artifact Merchant is possibly the strongest building in the game with combination artifacts enabled. Plus, it refills every month.
With common artifact merchants parts you can assemble the missing parts of the most powerful artifacts in the game and give you the definitive edge to defeat AI or other humans.
The larger and more (primary) resource rich the map is, and the longer the game goes on, the key qualities of artifact merchant intensify.
(Which is also why I think dungeon is NOT a weak town)
A single Artifact Merchant, unlike most of the buildings, is a source of potential infinite number of artifacts (which unlike skill boosts can be transported and distributed amongst your heroes as you choose), and as such, in the long term nearly unlimited power.

I assume you're talking about campaigns (which I never play), but if you're talking about normal games 5 million manticores are garbage because when you're ready to engage them you will most likely have the right spells (mass slow, resurrection, force field, etc.) to fight them

Well in theory you could be unable to get mass slow (expert earth needed) or force field, or maybe they have orb of inhibition.
(someone should mod in an artifact that protects against Slow)

had they had OoI they wouldn't need badge or pendant anymore, but since Salamandre mentioned those 2 arties it means that they don't have OoI. Besides, getting earth + slow is the easiest thing ever. I don't even need force field if I have these 2

depends on how many resource silos you have.
Id use it to boost my little secondary heroes when 1 hero cant handle all sides.

Yup, and sometimes this is a problem, cause what I thought was: it costs 10.000 but I can get 30.000 from what I have to sell and suddenly there is one of artifact that can increase production by X, it's the last day of the month (time I usually chose to build it) and I have no spares to use, so I spend all the earnings on a Ring or a pair of Loins...

I also think that Artifact Merchant is bit broken when you play on 200% vs AI.
On custom maps like Wayfarer, Ragnar series or whatever i usually disable them to prevent ai getting unnessary artifacts.
In Jedi Story Titan Master if you are slow with conquest, he can get Pendant of Second Sight and Badge of Courage from marketplace in his Tower(he starts with 5k titans).
I prefer play long maps with no taverns, so i only can stick with heroes i start or rescue them from Prisons.

It's not the resource silo, it's the marketplace itself. It functions like Freelancers Guild, the more marketplaces you have the better you bargain.

Titans are already immune by default to mind spells so I don't think that would change much.

If I recall right, I also got stuck at those titans, as orb of vulnerability didn't negate the pendant of sight effects.

In Jedi Story, you have access to Tome of Earth and Orb of Vulnerability in underground near your start location. Also, if you have not much Angels and other troops, you can bait Torosar(Titan Master) from his cursed ground Tower to attack you(He has radius 3 of movement) on normal snow ground.

I am assuming campaign maps. Earth Magic or Slow may be banned/unavailable. Even without Orb of Inhibition the map can be designed so that the key magic the mapmaker gives you, like Blind, that you need to complete the game, is randomly blocked by Pendant of Second Sight.
Indeed, in any case, against archers, Slow will not help you much, save for delaying their turn to later in the round.
