The Tides of War [DOWNLOAD]
It all started in year 2013. At first we just wanted to add alternative creatures to every vanilla town, like in Heroes 4. But as years have passed, people have changed, ideas have changed, and, in result, the mod has changed too. And now, at the end of 2019, we are very proud to show you Tides of War, an expansion for VCMI. Yes, expansion. Alternative units are the core of our mod, but finally we could add much more. New splash screen, new graphics, skills, objects, spells, heroes and so on. So we decided to give our project a proper name. We have some stories to tell, some lore behind this title. Unfortunately, we can't yet produce story-focused maps and campaigns due to limitations of VCMI Map Editor. And yes - we are aware of all of VCMI bugs and weaknesses. Still, it is the only H3 platform in which we can add such variety of new content with reasonable effort. As for people skilled in modding other platforms, be it ERA, MoP or anything else, if you want to port our expansion to platform of your choice - be our guest! We'd be grateful!
Also, watch out for our FB profile - it will be regularly updated with descriptions of what you can find inside, and maybe more. Though it brings more fun to discover them on your own. Have fun!

So, I have tried to download it but it went all wonky on me, glitching before freezing. Idk if this has happened to anyone else. Besides that, when I tried to install it on the VCMI mod it gave me an error saying it conflicts with hota.hota whatever that might mean. Some advice?

I do and tried both these things. The second one kinda of worked, but VCMI continues to crash so idk. I doubt it has anything to do with this mod.
Nope, but maybe it is because I use the full HoMM3 and not SoD

Looks really great! It seems that this team is capable of making extremely good pixel art. Honestly this could even be the very reason for people to try out VCMI more. Few questions, if I may:
1) Can we see a full changelog somewhere, or this currently all about the alternative creatures we can see in the video?
2) What kind of plans you have on your mind for the future? I mean, what is the big picture about the mod?
3) Is there a reason why you wanted to give alternative choices for these spesific creatures? (like deciding that Castle will have 2 tier 7's to choose from etc.) How you want alternatives to play out, are you aiming for 50-50 usage, or are you happy if all creatures are used just sometimes?

First of all, awesome work and congratulations!
While all of them look awesome, I really liked the sound of Dragon Golems and the suspended Lust Chambers. Great ideas!
Quetzalcoutals are probably the best looking unit, but they definitely look much tankier than 85 HP/11 Def. Dem really thick bois. I think they re as big as Haspids from Cove.

The frog neutral(?) in one of the earlier videos was the best looking unit IMO.
But for the town alts, I think succubus is the best. It's PERFECT for inferno, the type of demonic creature it was always missing.

Thank you guys for all kind words and proposals! Of course, there will be update in the future, some things will get nerfs, some boost, also new content is planned as well.
But now, we're enjoyed new HotA version (we're players after all ) and we started to work with another project/mod but it's too early to reveal any details.

I want to find someone with time that will make a sub-site at acidcave.com portal (in english too). ORrmaybe I'll create topic here with regular posts with detailed presciption. Now I update sometimes our FB page, there's some more information. Wish me luck

As I said below, updates are planned, especially when further vcmi development would require hotfixes. And - our dream - we hope someone skilled will port this mod at other more-playable heroes3 platforms. Anyone can use our assests freely.

Hard to say. Project was started with diffirent people in team compared to 2019's release When I joined to the team, some decisions were made and I don't know story behind them
About second part - hard to say Now ToW is strictly for fun. Because VCMI AI very rarely builds alternatives and plays poorly. And there's no multiplayer in vcmi to test our feaures in pvp mode. But, we can see some potentials in these new units, spells and artifacts. For example - two shooters in Inferno sometimes can be more devastating or cheaper Crudasers/Drake Golems will do more good at smaller maps.

That looks weird to me. These are meant to be alternate units, right? If so, why do they appear in the castle as an entirely new square (with the replaced unit still showing)? Wouldn't it be better to simply have the alternate unit replace the spot in the castle view where it appears for its correct level, if you choose to build the alternate unit building?

Don't even ask. VCMI RMG is often 'illogical' and spawns banks too often or doesn't spawn.
