Converting savegames back from HoTA to SoD?
So I started playing SoD, and then discovered HoTA, and continued my saved games in HoTA.
But when I finished one SoD campaign, it no longer allowed me to select the next SoD campaign, only HoTA campaigns were on offer.
Is there a way to convert the HoTA savegames back to SoD format? Or is there a way to be able to continue SoD campaigns under HoTA?

It is impossible to backward convert saves from HotA to SoD. Hota save format includes all hota graphics and harcoded features that SoD won't understand.
Playing H3 campaings under Hota sometimes makes them impossible to finish. There are know issues with artifacts and skill transfer between maps.
But if you want to play H3 campaigns uder HotA, just extract *.h3c files from h3bitmap.lod, paste them into Maps folder and plat then as Custom campaigns.

I assume that simply makes the maps individually playable, and it won't be possible to continue with the same heroes throughout the campaign, like the scenario allows you to?
Pity, really, as HoTA has a much better interface. Is there another mod/expansion that has an improved interface, but allows playing SoD campaigns?

HotA doesn't have much better interface, all interface 'goods' are coming from HD-mod. And SoD works excellent with HD-mod. It's only 2 clicks in hd-mod launcher And with SoD_SP plugin you'll get much more!

Oh, looks like I've been missing out a lot.
I tried creating "HD exe" in the HD launcher, but when I run it, it tells me "Game version undefined. The game might not work correctly. You should re-create HD.exe by HD_Launcher". But I'm not finding a place in the launcher to select a game version..

HotA creators did not allow to play it using HotA because all can simply play it on classic HIII. HotA dont replace any files. Maybe its possible but simplest way is using custom option. No sense to work on it. And I dont see sense play these campaigns via HotA. Theres completly no connections with HotA lore. If someone will do remake for HotA in this case we wouldnt have any problems to play. But good to know it.

It still pops up that error message, even though gameplay is mostly fine.
Although on one map the game crashed every time I tried to attack a specific monster on the map. And cut-scene animation hangs for a while with a blank screen. And there are some other quirks.
I'd still prefer playing with the HoTA interface, it seems neater, and it's very handy to see how many creatures are available for hire in map lairs. But HD-modded SoD is definitely better than plain SoD.
Tearing through the campaign now. Thanks a bunch!
