Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Presently the Kickstarter campaign for the indirect sequel to Owlcat's Kingmaker rpg, Wrath of the Righteous, is ongoing. What may be of interest to this community is that the next stretch goal is for tactical army battles inspired by Heroes III.

Explicitly inspired by Heroes III, and the update even gives a nod to Heroes II!

I have zero faith in Owlcat to make a polished project. Pathfinder: Kingmaker was released in such a pathetic state it left a bad taste in my mouth. The kingdom builder aspect of it, which was one of the major selling points, was absolute garbage. The adviser system was even worse, forcing you to lose advisers at certain points and never given any notice of it.
I have heard patches have fixed things but the damage is done. From what I've read of how awful the end game is (which at least is actually playable unlike at release), I have no desire to even bother firing it back up.

It is strange how different impressions you can get reading in different places. No, I did not find the end game awful, nor did the people I've talked to that played Kingmaker to the end game before now.

Pretty, interesting... But I see the game won't be a HoMM-like game, right? Hope they make it well with those 1.6 millions.

Did you play at launch? I was a KS backer and the game was released in a barely playable state and you could not even beat it because the last few chapters were not even finished.
At the end of the day, I vote with my dollars and unless OwlCat truly does something amazing with Wrath of the Righteous, I will pass that too.

Not in general, no, it is an RPG - Baldur's Gate-inspired - but with an added strategy layer. I guess one could say it approaches things from the exact opposite direction HOMM did back in the day - adding strategy elements to an RPG game, instead of RPG elements to a strategy game.

I did, yes, as another backer. But I will say I did not play through the game at launch, I held off there for a few months.

Yeah, I know that. I just said that I hope they will use that money wisely.

Well you really shouldn't expect Kickstarter games to be polished right at release, since, you know, we're talking about companies who can't fund themselves on their own.
As long as they eventually fix the game i for one will allow it. I mean i allowed it for HoMMIV, and that game used to crash after battles if the music was on.
Anyhow, the next stretch goal is apparently inspired by HoMM3:

Not all kickstarter games are like that, thundertitan, some come out very bright and polished from the start.
