Poll Question:
The ideal HoMM: where do Dwarves belong?

Next question ain't gonna be so boring, btw. I need time to get it done. In any case, there were some dwarf-only factions in MM, and after H3 Dwarves decided that the Wizards give them better funds and such other stuff (see the source on last poll). Also, shoule we have Halflings for Tower?

Dwarves are fodder man, who cares. Low level tanky meat shields whit a predilection for craftsmanship. Could fit Academy's inventor angle somewhat, could make for their own faction but that's stretching it very thin. Didn't like them in Fortress that much honestly.

Or, you can think of it this way: Why should they be tied with one faction if they can work with others too? If there was a Heroes game with a spellcrafter dwarf with a magic ball in Academy, a more sturdy dwarf with a pickaxe working in the mines of Fortress, all originally coming from their industrious country of many dwarves, why wouldn't that be acceptable?

But yea, they're ultimately low level fodder.

Not boring to me. I always liked the Dwarves. I vote for Dwarves to be paired with the Wizards, as it was done in Heroes IV with the Red Dwarves as creators of the Dragon Golems was brilliant in my opinion. I also liked the Halflings best in the Wizard/Academy town.

The Dwarves fit in with the Sorceress and Rampart town too but I personally enjoyed their depiction in H4 more.

I thought a Dwarf town was a good idea, but the lineup and lore of the Heroes V: HoF Fortress fell flat to me.

The ones in H4 are legit good, and slowness is their only flaw.

If elves get their own faction, then why not dwarves as well? I can't say I loved the H5 lineup, but we could surely come up with tons of different ideas. I even liked the Hobbit-idea of dwarves riding on war goats (there was not much I liked about those movies, but that, I did).

In elf town they always seem a little like those dwarves people put in their front garden. I prefer them being those tough, clever, little snows that care mostly about themselves.

Interesting. I'll see what the dudes on reddit say as well. Hopefully, I will have enough assets for the faction.

@sirironfist

Yep, I totally agree with you. But there are kinds and kinds of dwarves. Maybe those in the elven communities were just a branch.

Edit: Dang, 3/3/3.

well, I'm utterly confused (and probably unknowledgeable enough, too) about this subject because...

1) I have no idea where dwarves are (supposed to come) coming from, nor do I care not even enough to make a google search because...

2) I never liked dwarves anyway. I generally don't like short, fat people, despite of being so brave and/or magic resistant and/or good fighters, or whatever

I just don't like dwarves, and the HoMM doesn't help us like them either because it makes them slow as phuck, thus prone to leaving them to defend the castles.

However, based on my ignorance, laziness of doing the research, and the fact that there actually is a dwarven town (which I assume has been created by more knowledgeable people in the field than me) I have voted option #3 (the dwarven town).

I picked for dwarf faction, but not as in HoMM 5 where  you have: small dwarf, bigger dwarf, dwarf on bear, another dwarf, caster dwarf, hulk dwarf and dragon.

That was the lamest possible line-up in the history of HoMM (besides human faction where we have human with spear, archer human, griffin, human with sword, human caster, human on horse, human with wings).

And many interesting things can be done to a dwarf faction.

EDIT:

There are roughly 5 playable races in Might and Magic: human, elf, dwarf, gnome/halfling, half-orc.

If humans, elves and orcs have their own factions, why not make a faction for the rest?

Because there are some races which aren't that numerous than others, and prefer to live in collaboration with other races.

Edit: It's pretty obvious people want dwarf faction. I don't have anything against, tbh.

In the nature faction, obviously. Of course, this would require some kind of thoughtful effort to (re)create factions based on more abstract/mature concepts like themes (rather than going full warcraft clone) on the eventual developer's behalf.

I didn't really mind them going to the wizard faction in H4, but I did miss those gremlins. Oh well.

The dwarf faction won (62 and 6 here), by a relatively major advantage compared to the elf faction (49 and 5 here), in the end.

Ehh... you're confusing DnD/Pathfinder with (Ho)MM now, aren't ya...?

Race-based factions weren't really a HoMM thing before Erwin the Spider Dragon Godess took over. And honestly, they're another testament to the dumbing down and streamlining of the franchise.

I don't mind some french guy's fantasy about elves who are into bdsm, but I liked my old - original and thought-provoking - Dungeon. It's like the developers thought that concepts like factions based around >themes< were to mature and complex for the audience they were aiming for with all those cool battle animations.

No, I am not confusing them. These are starting races in the M&M games (i said roughly because some of the games have goblin, vampire, dark elf (dont know exactly, i havent played any M&M game, just read on wiki).

And i do not care about other games. I am only talking from HoMM perspective and i think that humans are overly represented in the game.

Theres Castle which has 5-6 types of humans (if we count the angels) + all heroes.
Theres Tower which has magis (would have prefered to be gnomes or other race), even stone golems look like humans (just as gargoyles look like kreegans, stone golems could ve looked differently) + heroes.
Zombies, skeletons + heroes in Necropolis.
Human heroes in all other castles.
Cove has 3 types of humans. Forge would ve had 1 type (pyromancer). Oasis, Bastion at least 1 of each + heroes.
Tarnum has skins for all factions.

However, there is no medusa hero, no halfling hero, no cyclop hero, no centaur hero, no dendroid hero, even beasts could be heroes, like the leader of the griffins, wyverns, notable beasts etc.

We need factions of other races. And it would make sense (lore wise) to use the races that the player has access to in M&M games. Let the Tower be a faction of gnomes and gremlins, living in harmony, not gremlins as slaves of human magis.

I also did not like visually the heroes V dungeon (level 6 whatever-was-called-mistress was embrassing), but i am all for race diversity. I like the idea of wood elves and dark elves, i would add even high elves, light elves, night elves, blood elves (from warcraft, yes), whatever elves if well done.

I would rather see a faction of 1-2 different main races + beasts and/or mythological creatures, than a faction of 5-6 different types of the same race.

In H4 we had heroes for more races tho. With exceptions like literal troglodytes (troglodytes, beasts like Medusas, etc.) or simply soldiers, like Nagas.

Also, it's just natural to create human-looking golems, coming from humans.

Only Halflings. Only.

It's natural for you, for a human.
Gargoyles are golems too, but they were made in the image of the Kreegans (official lore). So it is possbile for a human to come up with beast/alient/mythical looking golems.
