950 gold is little to what War Unicorns offer, tbh. But yes, there are better troops later on.

I agree that War Unicorns are very cost-effective troops (lots of HPs + blind for way less than what a monarch - or even champion - costs).
Also, will you believe me Bloodsucker if I told you that I have once been able to win a fight against the AI due to my 8500 dendroid soldiers?
I don't remember the details of the fight, nor do I have the save anymore to prove my point, but it's true. I have fought against a hero which had Titans, Behemots and other nasties... oh wait, I remember: I was playing mutare drake I think and was fighting a tough hero (tazar, kilgor, crag hack, or the alikes, I don't remember which one exactly) and despite of me being mutare drake and having blackies and gold dragons with vial of dragonblood as equipped item and the dragons hitting 2 stacks of creatures at the same time I still lost 2 or 3 times in a row before noticing how my 8500 dendroids were always the last to die. So I changed tactics, I kept the dendroids safe, buffed them with prayer and bless, took the retaliations of the nasty behemoths, archangels and titans with the dragons and then attacked with the trees. You'd be surprised to know how the trees were dealing 285-415k damage on Titans before being blessed (I might not remember the exact damage correctly, but I remember the trees were dealing 415,000 damage to titans after blessing).
So anyway, the trees are slow, but if you play like me, against a landlocked AI that can only up the rankings of its army (note: I am playing WoG and in WoG the creatures can level up 10 times each) they're really frightening in late game due to their sheer number, HPs, and obviously special). I was only able to win that fight because I took care of the trees and haven't sacrificed them again like in the previous fights, and the result of this care paid off.
Now, I'm not saying that they are valuable in PvP but I do believe that every now and then - and especially if you put them on Mephala - 200+ trees might actually decide the outcome of the main battle in a PvP match, despite of the 50 archangels your opponent might have, or whatever other creature they might have. If you play your cards right a few tiles less of movement can easily be compensated by the impairing ability of the trees and their huge HPs pool

Without a doubt Loynis(my play style) He usually gets air, earth water magic and most times logistics as well and if the maps a fast level up one he becomes super powerful very quickly.
I have worked out how to consistently get 498 in myth and legend on the heroes I downloaded from gog and with him it is easier then the others although Caitlin isn't bad either. I'm a magic heavy playstyle though.

My favorite heroes of each class are as follows:
Knight: Edric - Starts with armorer, and specializes in the griffins which are one of my favorite units in the game
Cleric: Loynis/Adela - Both specialize in great spells. Loynis's specialty is better but he starts with Learning (ew) whereas Adela starts with Diplomacy
Ranger: Mephala - I don't like logistics specialists, but I find armorer specialists very fun to use.
Druid: Abolish Druids. The world has progressed beyond the need for Druids.
Alchemist: Neela (duh)
Wizard: Cyra - Specializes in one of the best spells in the game and starts with diplomacy
Demoniac: Nymus/Marius - Starts with advanced Offense/Armorer respectively, and they each specialize in one of the troops making up the backbone of your army. Honorable mention to Rashka, as Effreets are one of my favorites, but he starts with Scholar, yuck.
Heretic: Zydar - Only one with a decent specialization that I can remember.
Death Knight: Vokail - V A M P S
Necromancer: Thant - A N I M A T E D E A D
Overlord: Dace - Offense AND Tactics AND buffing the already godly minos. Chef kiss.
Warlock: Darkstorm(Darkstorn is a typo since he's called Darkstorm is every other game) - He looks cool. That's it. Its the only reason since he sucks from a gameplay perspective. And why the snow does the guy with lightning shooting out of his eyes and named darkSTORM specialize in an earth spell?
Barbarian: Gurnisson - Crag Hack is too overpowered but I like the Ballista + insane attack stat.
Battlemage: Dessa - Idk why but he's an exception to my "no logistics specialty" rule.
Beastmaster: Tazar - D E F E N S E
Witch: Styg - Name is funny and Sorcery is fun.
Planeswalker: Abolish Planeswalkers. The world has progressed byond the need for Planeswalkers.
Elementalist: Luna - haha flame wall go brrrrr
Captain: Jeremy - C A N N O N
Navigator: Clone guy - C L O N E

You, my friend, are a true man of culture tips hat
Also, in WoG Rashka is pretty badass because you can get rid of scholar and replace it with a skill that you like. Besides, in Wog the Sultans also gain HPs, damage, speed and some abilities upon leveling up, so they're pretty nasty to deal with... well, even nastier than before that is...

And you, sir
I've never played WOG, I've always been more of a HoTA guy, although I've been meaning to try it out. I'm not entirely sure I understand what it is though, is it a mod, modpack, or modding software?

I've always liked Bron...he's the only hero in the game that can be hired with a level 4 creature in his army. Big fan of starting with Defense and Resistance, too.
