I can't reproduce this bug but I'll keep trying
Does the Settings button in the bottom left corner work? (Does it open the Main menu?)
I'm not surprised you can't reproduce it. It must be something with my system

The menu button does nothing. The animation of being clicked is OK but it doesn't open up the menu

Well, it's ok to have different hardware and OS versions. The game should either work fine or not launch at all, anything in between is my responsibility!

P.S. I will be checking this thread but won't be available for bugfixes over the weekend unless it's urgent. Family time...

Always family first. Besides, I already beat the game, so I'm good now

Hi all,
I'm taking a break from coding to freshen up the look of the game!
What do you think of these terrain-specific backgrounds for the combat mode? Which is your favourite?

I'm not really sure. One of the first two, I think.

the lava one is the most visually pleasing for me. All the others contain too much light and yellow in general which is not very easy on the eye (I wear high dioptre glasses) for me.

Thanks! Incidentally, they also took the longest to finish!

Now the big question is how I block light in the desert...
On a serious note, point taken - but I suggest we evaluate it in the actual game (maybe it will be easier on the eye if there are characters and UI overlayed, and frame / map around the window). I'll let you know when the stuff gets into the game.

still, even with future cosmetization and improvements I still like the lava scenery the most out of the 4.

And the 2nd spot would be taken by the beach background, with the worst (because it puts too much strain on my eyes) being the desert.

Actually, yeah... this is the order of most to least favorites: 2,1,4,3

Yes, the general rule for Steam pages is, roll it out as soon as you have a trailer and gameplay screenshots.

I do want to make an appealing game for HOMM players, so the earlier people get involved the better the release version

Anyway - thanks!

Interesting, but the only problem is that the dark grass seems to be closer than the lighter one.

I hate steam with passion because it asks me to pay at least $5 in order to be allowed to make comments on their site, and while I do have the money to pay I don't like this "business" practice.

So, I won't join the steam page / site ever, but thanks for the invitation

Also, I like the last picture of the combat background that you've posted. More than the previous grass and desert screenshots actually...

Roger that! Do you use Discord, by any chance? I'm thinking about starting a server dedicated to the game there.

I don't use discord, either, but... in all honesty, don't include me in your plans cause I'm not going to participate. I am against all corporations and big, wealthy people and organization in general, so if there is the slightest chance for me to boycott and stop using their sites and/or companies I will. And one of the reasons why I support and help small devs like you is because I like to see competition in the field... in ANY field, because lots of competition means no monopoly for the greedy corporations.

But anyway, I will gladly keep on playing your game (I genuinely like it) and give you feedback on this forum whenever possible.

Also, I haven't played it lately cause I've been caught up with other things, but the last version I have played has been 1.1.12 and it's still been buggy. I just don't remember in which way, but I am 100% sure it gave me errors again.

The darker green is actually the forest edge. Hope it'll be clearer with the combatants in the midground (on the flower meadow).

I feel your pain and totally get the point about big corporations! Stimulation of mindless consumerism alone is enough to take a boycott stance...

As for the game, I'm currently taking a break from coding / debugging (because I've been doing only that for the last 3-4 months and it's making me sick...). I'll focus on visuals and UI for a couple of weeks, then get back to working on the major gameplay / logic / balancing update. I've written a specification for it, and I hope it turns out fun.

Some of the things planned:
- Overhaul of artifact effects, make them actually interesting (e. g. Medal of Valour doubles accuracy and committed attack force when hero's health drops less than 25%)
- Terrains influence combat (e. g. swamp reduces each combatant's health each round)
- Monster abilities (e. g. Medusa has a chance of paralyzing the hero for 1 round, i.e. all attack types get into cooldown)
- Perks for each hero class (e.g. Bards deal more damage with each consecutive successful hit in a row)
- Two more consumables
- Hero Guard and Wait effciency increases with hero level (i.e. hero on Level 3 blocks 2 points of damage when guarding, and a level 5 hero blocks 3 damage)

And finally, here's the promised cave background for combat:

isn't this too strong? I am not saying, I am just wondering. I mean, even on hard difficulty I have no problems defeating the AI, and considering that in FiresideHero you only play against the AI making the defending ability even stronger means that the AI will have even less chances of winning, and these chances are slim anyway.

The cave looks good, and should be included ASAP

Updated the grass / forest background, hope it's unambiguous now!

Also reworked the cave background to make the dome and the water more pronounced, as well as to ensure the hero character doesn't get in the way of the light:

Well, I'm going to update the AI. Also note that the added guard & wait bonuses will apply to the monsters, too! Let's see how it plays out... I'll keep you posted!
