Morale Questions

Hey guys,

I started preparing some Heroes 3 Tips/Guides videos and right now I am working on a Morale guide. So far, I have two questions and I need your help to make sure the info I provide in the video is accurate!

Question 1:
I always though that a creature's Basic morale is set to +1 and when you have any extra troop of the same alignment it gains an extra +1 so that would eventually lead to +2 morale. I only recently noticed that this is not the case since a creature by itself has already the bonus of "friendly alignment".

Most info on the web mentions though that "Presence of friendly alignment units in army increases Morale by 1" which basically isn't true since if you have one creature or three or four of the same alignment the morale is still just +1, right?

Question 2:
If you have an army of the same alignment but the Hero is a different town, does it affect morale somehow?

Please share with me your experience!
I may have more questions later!
Thanks a lot!

Default morale of creatures = 0 morale

Creatures of 1 alignment = +1 morale
Creatures of 2 alignment = 0 morale
Creatures of 3 alignment = -1 morale
Creatures of 4 alignment = -2 morale
Creatures of 5 alignment = -3 morale

No, the hero's alligment doesn't affect on creatures' morale. Even living troops lead by necropolis heroes can get positive morale for example.

Creatures from only one faction: + 1 morale. All neutral creatures count as the same faction.
3 or more factions: -1 for each faction starting with the third one.
Extra -1 morale if you have undead (Mummies included) in the army.

Hero alignment does not affect morale.

Extra bonus. Mino can be added to dead army and has no morale penalty :0)))

Thank you guys for the help.
That thing with the units having 0 morale by default but already starting with 1 positive morale due to alignment will be a bit confusing to explain.

I've added everything I could think of from mixing creatures, to ground and artifacts and structures.
I included that part with the Minotaur too, thanks.

Any hidden things you might know will greatly help me too!
Thanks!

There is also a Grave object in HotA that reduce Morale by 3 points if you dig it.

About luck:
Neutral creatures without a hero are unaffected by luck (Halflings, neutral alignment creatures on a Clover Field - bug, fixed in HotA).

For creatures with multitarget attack (Cerberus, Hydra) a lucky strike applies only to one target. The priority target for a lucky strike is chosen clockwise.

Interesting with Hydra. So its only one calculation and second is which target and thats all. It should be for all targets because luck is for each attack no for each unit. Opposite to this morale works for all heads. Its unhonest. Luck is penalised additionaly negative dont work. Big bugs.

Yeah if luck only works against one stack, that makes it even more worse than morale.
At least there is negative luck in HotA.

My Magic the Village-Forest (SoD map, 9 rating) has special story. You get a luck in the Cursed Land against Great Zeitgeist heh. I don't know does the same work on your machine. But my maps are always special story. Because I created.

That's interesting.

Let me know if you would me to credit to for that in the video.

Thanks!

Hey,

I am currently preparing the video and I was testing this out.
I casted Bless to ensure that Hydra will deal the same damage to all creatures around. As Luck shined, indeed only one was heavily damaged BUT not the one that I have targeted. Does the game choose a random monster for the Luck to apply?

Target is chosen clockwise as I said before. Except for mid-bottom hex which has less priority than others after it.

@excalibur

Nice vids, watched them both, and subscribed instantly.

However, one thing that caught my eye: In the morale video you state that neurtral cretures on adventure map cannot be mixed, and this is technicially right, because you worded it like that (if we don't count neutral garrisons and such). However, mixed neutral troops can be found even on RMG generated maps inside Dragon utopias and Temple of the seas (hota's water object.) As both objects have creatures from 2 alligments, they lose the morale bonus.
