Pineapple is more appropriate because when you cross a pine cone with an apple, you get a baby pineapple. Why do other languages use ridiculous words when better alternatives are available to them?

Anyone who uses "ananas" is incapable of spelling.
End of discussion.

Well, after googling it, it seams the origin of the word comes from the Tupi people native to Brazil. They used the word 'nanas' to describe the pineapple, which translates to 'excellent fruit'. I love pineapple, so I'd say sure, why not, it sounds like a good way to describe it.
English has some ridiculous descriptions if you think about it. A 'seahorse' is not a real horse, a 'snowbird' is not made of snow, 'Sunday' isn't always sunny, and cowboys aren't literal cows. As far as pineapple being a cross of pine cone and apple goes, there's no reason that should be made the uniform word used to describe that utmost 'excellent' fruit

Carving a pineapple would be time consuming.
Plus with pumpkins you can gut all the seeds and roast them. Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice drink. Pumpkin cheesecake. Pumpkin hummus. Pumpkin waffles.
