Poll Question: Incomprehensible party in Finland
Yes tomorrow's International Workers' Day!
I and one friend drink 1x0,586 4,5% beer, 1x0,5 5,2% beer and then last 3x0,5 8,5% beer. If we are ok. Se drink whiskey with Coca Cola. So 0,7 40% but real 0,35l plus Coke.

Just chase the beer with vodka. Finlandia is ok. I mean, it's WORKER's day, you can't do whisky, right?

Yes.
Tomorrow Finnish people are pig. All drinks we buy. Finnish state owns alcohol. Only we have a ALKO shop.

I mean, Whisky is capitalist alcohol. A good Malt is way more expensive than a good vodka, and there isn't much worse stuff than cheap whisky. Maybe cheap brandy can compete (tasting bad and leading to worse headache), but cheap whisky with Coke is a sure recipe to desaster.
So, get rid of the Coke and the whisky and chase the beer with vodka, if you want to get really sh!tfaced...

I offer drinks. He doesn't like a rum and vodka. We are talked about drinks. Because we offer each other. He offered always cheap, only I use and drink brand, now's cheap, but stronger 8,5%. I never tested OLVI drink. OLVI you find Finnish humour ads in YouTube. But good thought the first whisky and this after beers. I know it's fierce.

Yeah remix is a ordinary candy. But you know about Finland. I'm suprised. We drank AURA and OLVI. Karhu is from Pori city. Karhu is expensive too Aura. Olvi is cheap! My friend doesn't eat candies, I ate candies, then friend slept, I cleaned table, and took photoes. Now I removed friend photo, when I don't asked a permission.

Yeah I take business trips to Finland (at least back before there was no Corona). It's a tradition for our group to always take with us at least a supply of "jellies" (we like various mixes my personal favourite is Tutti Frutti). Our families also like them very much and always ask to bring some back. Also Fazer's chocolates are very good.
Karhu is a different story. We tried a few Finnish beers (I'm pretty sure we tried Koff and Lapin Kulta), but somehow Karhu sticked with us. At this point it's even symbolic for us to at least buy a few Karhus each time we visit. Other then that we usually drink those that are available in hotels (mostly local or craft beers).
I also sometimes bring back lakka ("Lapponia" made) or cloudberry liquor with me becasue it's pretty unique and my mom likes it. Recently lakka jam is also available here in PL through Ikea
Personally I'm also a fan of Karjalanpiirakat, but only with jam.
And your desserts are killer (especially cakes with fruits like cheese cake etc)!

Now I really understand you visited in Finland. I thought some day. Yes Karhu. No water from Pori. Today Helsinki Hartwall owns Karhu too Aura. Aura beer prepared in the village of Aura near Turku. Owner sold to Hartwall. So they make the same recipe but different water. At least my opinion water is important, if beer prepared in Russia or Sweden, it can't call Finnish beer. Karhu is almost common in a pub, etc
Fazer is a "famous" also expensive. Tutti Frutti is better, when price, but choice of taste. I like more Fazer bread. IDK what I can recommend Fazer products.
IKEA? We haven't.. only we have a Swedish meatball, etc I also visit a Ikea. When USA thread, candle are much cheaper, etc but I don't buy a sofa, bed, etc
Welcome to Finland again.

It is expensive especially when you pay in euros (good thing we have a subsistence allowance lol ). BUT! Usually there are a lot of 2 for 1 promos etc. There's also this other popular brand... Panda, I also buy stuff from them. Also dried forest fruits in choclate are great and I like to eat some occasional Reindeer meat due to its uniqueness I even ate a pizza with it once.

IKEA has a grocery section, there are a lot of Sweddish products like cranberry jams or cookies, but some Sweddish brands also make cloudberry jam. Cloudberry is unique to regions which climate was heavly influenced by Ice Age. In Poland it is too warm, we only have like two small natural spots where it grows (I read about it so I know )
I can brag about Finland quite a bit more becasue I've been there at least 8 times already (all short 2-3 day trips unfortunately and becasue it's mostly work we don't have that much time to sightsee but I did manage to see a lot of places in Helsinki and was in Hamenlinna one time - nice castle and landscape park there).

I eat a reindeer, etc sometimes, but I don't like reindeer pizza.
Now I can think you.
I recommend:
It's expensive in a store. Link says 121g costs €2,79. I like it. I bought a very sometimes.
Those two are top. What I know those are real good.
Then if you have a time. I recommend you visit a https://www.hel.fi/helsinki/en/culture/city-culture/market
And I think you are happy.
About IKEA, I understand.. When we have cloudberry, and Finnish ikea doesn't sell a such. Maybe now in there have cloudberry. I don't visited ikea in about 6 years ago.
I recommend you and your friend go to market, from link you can find places.
Second you visit a Stockmann. Store sells only brand. Expensive! Both very old store.

Those chocolates look delicious.
On another note, I just realized now that (maybe half of) the world celebrates this holiday by partying while here in my country they celebrate this by doing a public protest.

I know Geisha, they're pretty good.
We actually visited Hietalahti Market Hall, it was close to a hotel we stayed in. It's a market-turned-eating-spot. We ate at one Finnish ravintola (means "restaurant" for those who don't know) and a Filipino one there (most were usually closed already by the time we went in). We ofc try some Finnish cuisine from time to time but we also like the fact that Helsinki has a lot of foreign cuisine restaurants which are hard to come by in Poland (for example there's a South American one we visited near main Railway station, there's also an Ethiopian one we plan to visit).
We usually try finnish cuisine in hotels but sometimes we are also invited to dinners in some local places. I find your fish dishes particulary good.
@Galatea
And as far as Labor day goes in Poland we mainly celebrate by grilling and ofc drinking Unfortunately the weather is pretty bad (rainy) this year...

There are no unions in the USA, so I hadn’t even heard about this holiday until this thread. Weird how that works, huh?
