biden to restrict travel to india because of covid
funny, they called trump a xenophobe and he was smeared as a racist all over the news and by government officials when he wanted to restrict travel to china for the exact same thing.
i wonder how the media and the other government officials will react to this same move by biden?
we'll just have to wait and see, i guess. i'm sure biden can expect the same negative attention trump did...

no, you don't care. you're assuming that your feelings are the same as others. there's a difference. i believe it's a defense mechanism some people have, so they don't have to feel anything that bothers them. it's escapism, plain and simple. it's also weak and inhuman. it might make sense, given the scope of problems created by less savory people, but that doesn't mean you need to escape it. escapism only leads to more escapism, and solves nothing.
step one is acknowledging there IS a problem, in order to take steps to solve it.

i understand that some people would rather not deal with problems. i'm not wired that way. i see squandered potential for improvement everywhere, in everyone, including myself. i work to better myself and help those around me. if they don't want help, and would rather be mired in the ever-increasing abundance of problems in the world, or in the case of people like you, ignore these problems and enjoy the short time they have on this planet while others suffer and nothing improves, that is their perogative. but that will never stop me from making the attempt. i know what CAN be. but people have to work towards it, and most people would rather be lazy and write off a backwards and twisted reality as something that just IS. I, on the other hand, am wired to make attempts to HELP people understand, so that efforts can be made to move forward to FIX problems.

Trump's motivations, even in retrospect, do seem to be dubious at best because he never prohibited travel from China's administrative regions, i.e. Hong Kong and Macau, despite cases of spread in Hong Kong in particular, and identified cases were already rapidly expanding in Italy and yet Italy received no such treatment until much later, despite the Italian government's response being pretty incoherent. Moreover, thousands of Americans made direct flights from China and were never quarantined. Why? Why would that be if the travel ban was allegedly for safety reasons and nothing else?
So the decision seemed to be - at least in part - motivated by a symbolic "F U" to China rather than a decision that was come to with careful consultation by a body of experts monitoring the situation. That behavior makes sense for a man who ran a strongly loyalist-based administration and self-identified as a nationalist. If there was an opportunity to punish China he was all-to-eager to pounce on it.
At any rate, despite his fascist attempt to stay in power, he is not the president anymore.
