In H4 could'nt you also just buy endless "Potion of Immortality", to well make your hero immortal...

Heh if hero drinks, it means he/she has casted potion, so can't cast spells. Then player casts cancellation, dispel or steal enchament, and then his/her troops kill hero. Another way hand of death, etc Hmm "endless", if fooled player.

Drinking the potion uses your hero turn

The opponent can have up to 7 creature/heroes turns (or more with summons) until you get another turn. Each of those can kill you.

So, no...

Also, there is no such thing as "infinite" immortality potion, even if you buy like 100, you are just stalling the inevitable. And they don't stack so you need to drink them one at a time.

The real "immortality" is in Heroes 3, get 1 phoenix, attack enemy, armageddon, Surrender, rebuy your hero with the Phoenix, armageddon, surrender... you can do this as many times as you can afford in a turn and the opponent can't do anything since the phoenix out-speeds everything

(in case of those who wonder, no, you can't do this in H4, since heroes and creatures don't recover movement after surrender)

Okay, it's also been a long time since I played H4, but I still remember those yellow potions being pretty powerful.
You could drink the potion before combat to get "an extra life" right?

Yeah Armageddon is also pretty cheesy.

Of course he can, there are at several hit and run counters - special terrains, artifacts and optimal heroes chain.

If I remember right Phoenix and Angels have the same favored ground, while it's not unheard of for Flux players to get artifacts as well...

I meant cursed ground as well, shackles, red orb, power of the dragon father,  speed artifacts, immune to magic troops. Look, if you know someone is going to hit and run you, you play differently, you don't just jump in the unknown with full army. You send scouts with high spells and fast stacks, so he has to re-buy his main after killing little things.

I won't argue. H3 is a different beast depending on the maps you play, I haven't played H3 competitively for 20 years, but I'd still play Conflux to win.

The REAL question whether H3 is balanced with regard to H4 is this: If you play RANDOM SETTINGS (town, hero, bonus - doesn't all apply to H4), can that already be decisive?

I'd say, yes, for H3, no for H4. That's it.

Yes, depends  on map and being foreseeing as well. On a map with 2 towns only, you don't go random and if other player selected conflux, you go for it as well (same for many other setups). On maps with tons of towns, as those being played right now, you  build the first conflux you get, to minimize chances of ending hit like a sitting duck.

Sure, you can also be extremely unlucky and not get any conflux, any speed artifacts then the opponent gets Armageddon from first mage build, well, still unlikely, then so many utopias, red orb and shackles will pop in now and then.

If desperate, you can also message your opponent "wow, got the shackles on a corpse", even if you didn't, depends on your bluff skills

I wouldn't argue against H3 being fun, even though it's unbalanced. I've been playing this like a maniac for some years as well.
Now, the question is, what's NO fun.
That's H VII.
H VI is actually pretty good in MP - not the H3 way, but pretty playable, and fun, actually.

Conflux also has Artifact Merchants while most towns do not. Conflux also has "all spells" bonuses in Grail which other towns do not. To say default conflux can be countered is folly. Only counter is to use the even more OP necropolis, which is why both were banned from competitive play before hota.

But yes, getting the extra life before combat in H4 is pretty much a requirement for any important battle. All factions have the same access to the potion, at least, but it does feel a bit cheesy.

Heroes 7 worst in the series without a doubt.
Heroes 6 was passable, still like the ost.
Heroes 5 best in the series.
Heroes 4 had great music, but not so much gameplay.
Heroes 3 was peak NWC era.
Never played Heroes 2.
Tried out Heroes 1 to see how it all began, very outdated by that time.

you should check out heroes 2. it's far superior to heroes 1, imo. it has a certain special quality to it; which i think is why you have people like orzie modding heroes 3 to be more like heroes 2.

Somehat surprisingly regarding most comments, Heroes VI is being considered worse than VII

I guess veterans didn't like the wide ranging gameplay changes and "town conversion"

Who says VI is worse than VII?? Blasphemy!

VII has better "ideas" in general but it's just a terribly unfinished game. It's the worst kind of insult the way they left it. I still don't know with what face Ubi will come out and say "we're working on Heroes 8". I hope they sell the franchise to another company, so we can move past this era.

VI skill system, spell system, tear/blood, no caravans, cheap town conversion, etc. many things changed drastically, and that was divisive. Other than that, it was a finished game, and it looked great. I didn't like most ideas there as part of the franchise but, as a standalone game, it is a fine product.

in a perfect world, every game after heroes 3 would have improved graphics based off of the traditional aspect, with more towns, more spells, more artifacts, more heroes, more campaigns, more resources, more terrains, more graphics, more adventure map objects, more everything.

there was no reason to reinvent the wheel; just refine it. i dream of what could have been, and it makes me sad. if we had the source code, we could have built the entire planet of Enroth, and beyond.
