Grail and Level 8 Creature
It would be cool if the town that had the grail got a level 8 creature. Maybe only 1 a month but very strong.

Or maybe the creature could be unique for the town like a very strong boss or like a minor god. These could have there own special abilty, maybe they could even be a hero that can control an army of there own.

Defender of the Grail..?
Your idea sounds intriguing... The problem is that the grail is very good as it is.. So I think that to add that creature feature there would have to be cuts on other features...
Another possibility could be that the creature would be the defender of the grail... Making him appear only when the grail town is threatened.. That's not very mighty.. . But on the other hand.. not always that fun either..
So I stick to your thought.. but with a decrease in the other features...

I´ve recommended that before...
...a long time ago when heroes 3 wasnt ready yet. My idea was the same, to be able to recruit one very powerful creature, or maybe be able to summon one at a special day, indicated by 'Week of the....'
I never really got a response....

Or maybe you have a choice of what is in the game now or the new creature.

when we put the grail, as u guys said before a very powerfull creature can come out for each mount but if we use just for defense it would be a bit equal for every player. I would prefer if its a defender of the grail or town.

Thought I should reawake this thread...
Since the attributes of Attack, Defence, and Spellpower is gone how about instead making a grail creaure that defends the down?
This could be done by animating the town or it could be done by making a special creature that defends the town.
If it's done the latter some consideration should be taken as to what role the grail creature should have.
Should it be able to physically attack (just as creatures and heroes can)?, or should it be restricted to cast spells and other special effects?
If the grail creature can attack physically must the attacker must defeat it to take the town or is it enough that the other defenders are defeated. If the grail creature is defeated, what should happen to the grail? Is it permanently destroyed?
In any case I feel the creatures are town tied to the town where the grail is. So you can't recruit them in the normal sense of the word. In all cases the grail is only usable in the town. It can't be used by wandering troops or heroes. If it could, then the abilities would have to be toned down considerably.
Last some ideas for structures of the different types.
The first is intended to be an animation of the town or the battlefield while the second will be a physical creature.
Preserve
Dryad Garden. The Preserve is defended by Dryads, who can summon creatures of the forest as defenders. This could be Forest dragons, Wolves, Unicorns, Treants or whatever is appropriate. The Dryads wouldn't engage in combat.
Carnivorous Plant. A huge plant which is a level 5 creature attacking anyone who dares to attack the town.
Asylum
Armageddon Fields. Transforms the area outside the castle to a fiery holocast, dealing damage to everybody outside the walls. (Ties in with the Chaos magic skill.)
Deity of Fire. A level 5 creature defending the town physically. (Spellcaster)
Haven
Holy Grail. Bestows positive bonuses on the creatures in the town. Abilities like: all creatures automatically deals maximim damage, as well as the ability to cast high level beneficial spells on creatures during combat, like Ressurrection or Prayer.
Archangel. A guardian angel who defends the home of the grail and the city.
Academy.
Sword of Judgement. Doubles the health values of all creatures in the town, as well as giving all creatures in the town a chaos ward.
Lord of Titans: A strong champion defending the cities with lighting bolts and fighting prowess.
Stronghold.
Warrior's Monument: Doubles the damage values of all creatures in the town. Bestows 75% magic immunity to all troops inside the castle.
Deity of Earth: Capability to quake the ground so that it swallows a certain percentage of the attackers each round. A level 5 creature with high damage and health values.
Necropolis
Soul Prison: Automatically ressurrects all attackers as Ghosts after a siege on the city. A mist of death outside the city drains 5% of the stacks remaining health each round, this applies only for living creatures.
Deathlord: A powerful lord of the dead fights for the city when attacked.

Djive's post takes an old idea, and goes a new direction with it. I don't know how workable it would be, but it's a nice wish.
It's also nice to see that somebody besides me has been back around page 30 lately. LOL
Hey, Djive, as long as you're back there .... ::holds out a spare feather duster::
Seriously though, I'd like to encourage all of you to take a minute or ten to look back at some of the really old posts. Some of them contain some very good ideas that nobody has revisited in a while.

Djive, WHY ARE YOU NOT WORKING FOR 3DO?!!!
It would have been so cool if this supreme idea was in HoMM4...
BTW: Did you get the whole idea from the carnivorous plant in Fortress? Just a thought...

I did at one time start with the oldest threads and read them forwards in time. I didn't make it all the way through.
The way I found this thread was as follows:
I knew I wanted to add some ideas for the Grail building so I searched the Altar of Wishes for topics with the word "Grail" in them. This was the only match i found. Since it was related I preferred reviving the Thread instead of creating a new one.
I'm glad you liked the post and the the general ideas, and thought them worthy of a qp.

Good idea...
I for one think there should be a sort of creature bonus with the grail apart from the growth increase...a sort of defender of the grail that lies dormant(but not sleeping*he he*)in the town, would be an idea right outta my imagination...good idea RexBibendi

Great thoughts!
I must say I am impressed, Djive! Backing up Preserver (are you Danish?).
The only thing to point out (this is meant as constructive criticism) is that the "grail" which gave the defending units double HP might unbalance the game a bit too much (A pack of titans (or something equivalent in HP in HOMM IV )with 2000 HP's each! Ouch!)
But otherwise, great. My opinion is you seem to have managed to maintain that very special HOMM atmosphere!
Bravo!

You are worried about the double hit points? Then you should be equally worried about causing double damge.
Normally, it seems people tend to opt for offensive skills over defensive ones. Stronghold = offence = good. Fortress = defence = bad.
The grail buildings in Heroes 3 has similar properties. Carnivorous plant = +10 Attack and defence, Warlord's Monument = +20 Attack.
+1 on an attribute can add up to +5% to damage taken or received, so the abilities are comparable. (20 * 5% = 100% equals double damage.)

Awesome idea Djive
That's brilliant - the grail adds a resident guardian and an insane bonus in siege combat! But I think you'd need to decrease the other benefits of the grail, otherwise it'd be even more unbalancing than in H3 (although I have beaten a computer that found it on Hard - once).

This idea was cool. In addition, I would like to be able to add defenders to a castle moat. There was an idea like this before somewhere... they would be kinda like hydras. Hard to kill, slow, but good attack on any enemy who stopped in the moat. They also wouldn't be able to leave the moat to attack either.
