Heroes of might and magic 4 powerportraits texturepacks (first Release!)
Hello heroic members of the Heroescommunity!
Ever thought that Heroes 4 needs an upgraded look? That was my thought exactly!
I've recently got into modding Heroes4 and thx to a lot of emails and browsing Forums and most importantly the resourceeditor I managed to do all of this.

-added many new portraits for creatures that were made an acryl.
-new combatactor for ghosts. Now they are more similar to H3 wraiths.
-new deathsound and hurt-sound for Ghosts, making his laughter more maniacal
-new combatactor for mermaids making them more like actual colourful fishes instead of just green.
-changed the combat appearance of male melee death-knights. Their axe is now slightly more similar to a halberd. They now have a dark helmet and glowing greedy eyes full of hatred. When they die, their bodies will emmit dark energy, when a flash of light turns them to ash. Only their helmets remain. I wanted to go away from the zombie-type deathknight and want to make it unclear what is beneath the helmet. Who knows, whether it is an undead spirit, an evil Lich or a vengeful Kreegan.
-his deathsound is now far more dramatic.
-changed Naga to be more similar to the nagas of heroes 3. This Naga however also has a completely new snake-pattern. It is the one of the mighty tiger-python with brownish-orange-black patterns, ready to ambush you in the jungle. Their snake-tails generally feel longer and more massive compared to the original naga.
-changed Fire-elemental to be no longer an orange pudding but a glowing monstrous energy of pure heat. His flames now feel like actual burning flames and he is generally more colourful, truly displaying power.
-implosion is now a combination of the heroes 6 and heroes 5 implosion. It no longer is just a cloud of smoke.
-Disintegrate used to have an animated piece of metal that gets burned... boooooring!
Now it is a twisting Galaxy that gets devoured by its own dark matter until no shadow dares to exist of its former light.

Hello there! Awesome to hear you're using the resource editor and it's working out for you!
I pretty much just got to work, so I have to wait until much later tonight to take a look at all your stuff, but I'm excited to do so! Really awesome to hear that's you're interested in updating various H4 graphics. I might know someone who can help you with that
There are still some bugs with importing images that I need to fix. Well, there's one main bug that I know of. Seeing more people actively working on this type of stuff will give me the motivation to try - again - to fix these issues!
One thing about your post that might help others: Do you think you could use print screen and then an image hosting site to make it easier to see your examples?

Hello. I commend your enthusiasm but I would reccomend you first learn how to take screenshots, instead of using your cell phone to take a photograph of the screen. Your pictures of pixels on the display on akward angles are quite painful.
Also, I do not reccomend painting animations manually, those are hundreds of 2D frames...

Thx a lot, I never knew there are programms that enable Screenshots for Heroes 4! That will definetely be great since I do not posess a strong camera. As for the bugs: it mainly has to do with transparency, things getting too large (found a way of fixing that one) and a bug where certain frames turn into old frames. (I was searching through heroes4.hr and thought that some actors have a "Base_frame" and for some I was not able to find them. But I have not searched in other h4r files yet.)
I do not make the animations manually using acryl or watercolour but I actually use a programm called Gimp for those. It can modify images including .PNG files which are the frames used for animations. Doing that manually by painting and making photos would indeed take ages.

Don't worry there is no reason to rush further developement since this retexturing will probably still take a lot of time and I am already very excited by the work you already did. When I have seen it I was mindblown: Never thought a programm like your Resourceeditor could enable beginners like me to create texture packs.
As for image hosting sites, I think you mean a site where all my images can be seen at once, right? Unfortunately I do not know how I can do it. I am more or less inexperienced with the internet but thx to other people who once used Google Drive I thought about uploading my H4 stuff there, even though it does kinda seem impractical. I might find a way though and fortunately Nimostar helped me to find a way of creating more pleasant photos using programms he listed.

Very nice that Heroes 4 is still popular especially now when we have modding tools! Sadly still we can only mod onlh graphic and game settings like ballance. In future we wille have new engine with more options.

Now you might be surprised to see that some pictures look completely different, such as the new ghost that looks like the H3 Wraith or the new Fireelemental.
That is because I am also planning to change Combatactors! I always wanted to have more threatening ghosts, more monstrous and fishlike mermaids (instead of just a green eel) and a fireelemental that doesn't look like a giant orange pudding.
So far I've only created a new mermaid (although her adventure actor is bugged and got a little big XD)

Don't be to harsh on me, I am quite a newbie when it comes to animation.
There definetely will be new spell animations. I am sure we all wanted an implosion similar to the one in H6 but in H4!
Maybe in the far future there might also be more lore-friendly descriptions of creatures.
Like:Goblinknight changed into "Steelborn"
"Once the noble guard of a mighty sorcerer,before dark powers mutated their flesh into their armor. Now they are Steelborn! Faster, stronger and more resistant than any human could ever achieve."
or
Dark Champions
"When holy knights swore an oath to protect an ancient wizard they did not expect for that oath to last beyond death. Now with souls forever enslaved nothing can break them, for with each wound their armor reforms. Their legendary horror surpasses all mortal fears."
This however will probably take a long time given that I have my descriptions in a foreign language.
Ok guys, no need for those links anymore. Now thx to the advice of Iliveinabox05 and Nimostar I managed to take screenshots inside my game and upload it on an image hosting site named imgur.

I guess that is because I changed a lot of death-aligned creatures. Soon there will be new Nature portraits though and those will brobably bring a lot unicorn and pixie stuff into that dark place.
Although the horror will be joining heroes back, when the actors for Wraiths and Deathknights are finished.

As you can see the new ghosts are now mysterious dark floating cloaks kinda similar to wraiths in h3.
I am very proud of the new implosion: It was inspired by the h6 and h5 implosions. I made kind of a combination of them for the new h4 powerportraits texturepack.
Some nature portraits also have been added and I worked a little on the deathknighthelmet.
I am also currently trying something more challenging: I want to remake the nagas to make them remind one of the H3 nagas. Unlike H3 nagas those ones will not have the reddish, black pattern since those are colours for death and chaos. Instead I basicly want them to be tiger-pythons with a dark tiger-python pattern. So far this one is very hard to make, since snake movement is indeed complicated and I am kindanew to animation. (Especially at creating shadows)
Here we have new, more recent material I can showcase: Basicly I now added a fireball animation that is more bright and less smoky at the start but increases in smoke at the end.
I also decided to change the animation for the chaos spell Disintegrate. It is now not just a wheel that gets molten but a galaxy of stars that vanishes through the darkness!
The naga's combatactor is finished aswell and a new portrait with the H3-like crown and full of blades is added.

Te new in-.combat ghosts are intriguing, yet it is hard to say how this works overall seeing that these are heavily edited/photoshopped images...

Unfortunately I can not show animations that well due to not having a good camera, so I can only show those anims by screening and pasting parts of their anims ingame.
Do not worry though, after deathknight helmets and fireelemental's combat actors are finished I will release a first version (hopefully soon)
I am currently working on the new fireelemtals. These creatures will now look far more fiery with visible flames all around them. When attacking those flames reach the shape of scary monsters.
They are one of the tallest creatures now, surpassing even Gold-Golems.

As you see, death knights now have new castanimations and new attackanimations.
Now there are just flinchanims and deathanims to do and the first release will be reached. I also have plans and ideas for future versions, but that will be said later.
