As an American I can say this a little easier without looking like I'm speaking bigotry
But the American political system is fricking dumb as hell.
So when the candidates for republican and Democrat are both boiled down to about 15 front men and yes men, on each side that were all supported, endorsed, and choose by the primarily rich old white guys and corporations start to debate on TV we still don't really matter
After they are boiled down to nominee elects by the powerful who decide, then we get to whisper in the wind by voting on others to vote for us.
This is a really basic explanation of my view.
