Haven - True. I guess I'm just getting bored with seeing the same tired old 'pseudo-Medieval Europe' theme trotted out time after time.
Academy - One thing I do consider worth commenting on is the lack of really any non-magical units. In a city as big as this, you might expect at least some archers/infantry from the wider population.
Sylvan - Lynx, badger, wolverine, deer, boar, etc, just from 'pure wildlife' roster, assuming you're focussing on European woodland creatures.

Haven
yes, I would also like change, but I can't come up with anything of my own.
Academy
Oh, ok, but the whole point of academy is magic, even the wider population has to learn magic, or else they can't really cooperate with the wizards, or the civilians don't fight.
Sylvan
yes, but all those creatures are from real-life, not mythology, heroes is a fantasy strategy game, but I get your point.
edit: would the loxodons be humanoids or monsters?

Haven - Fair enough. I might have been inclined to go for some sort of lion creature, given the number of times lions appear on coats of arms, at both the local and national levels.
Academy - Well I was thinking of, say, archers with magical arrows, or soldiers with arcane armour or something. Not above Core-level units.
Sylvan - Looking at the labours of Hercules, the Nemean Lion, Ceryneian Hind, Erymanthian Boar, Stymphalian Birds, etc. were all real creatures given mythical powers.
Loxodons would technically be humanoids, but, being anthropomorphic animals rather than just different-sized/proportioned humans (like elves, dwarves, etc.) would be fresh and interesting.

To build on this point: this is why I increasingly think in terms of a merged haven/academy. The same large, rich urban civilization that can produce the academy's mage guilds can also produce organized massed infantry with pike and archers.
(I will eventually post lineups, I promise, even if so far I just babbled about werecat culture in a conlanger Discord.)

My Comment: yeah, I once put lions at top tier, but gave up the idea recently.
Academy - Well I was thinking of, say, archers with magical arrows, or soldiers with arcane armour or something. Not above Core-level units.
My Comment: Oh well, arcane archers and enchanted infantry are good ideas, too bad I forgot about that, maybe they'll be neutrals, that say fled the wizard empire of Noxus because they were making too many scary creature allies (simurghs, giant moths, sphinxes.)
Sylvan - Looking at the labours of Hercules, the Nemean Lion, Ceryneian Hind, Erymanthian Boar, Stymphalian Birds, etc. were all real creatures given mythical powers.

My Comment: got your point, I guess I just forgot about them.
@Alon
Well, your idea sounds interesting, but just a little weird.
