This is a video by JRR Tolkien explaining why the eagles didn't just take the ring of power to Mount Doom. I had never thought about it like this before, but he is absolutely 100% correct.

Yes its Tolkien big fail! Final quest solution ruined all. Frodo could simply fly to Mordor destroy ring and back to Shire.
Second fail is army of deads solution. Aragorn could do it faster and war was won!
But its early fantasy so may have mistakes. Writers should not make it again.
