Is it possible to...
somehow limit the amount of active heroes human players can have in Heroes 3?
On Expert, AI can have max 5 active heroes, on Impossible AI can have max 6 active heroes, so it would make sense if the same rules applied to human players.
Also if AI already have 5 (on Expert) or 6 (on Impossible) heroes, is it still possible for it to free prison heroes? I assume the answer is yes, but I'm not 100% sure.

What do you mean by active? Is scouts active? Monsters fighters active? Sub main active?

Heroes that are not hidden away in towns. (They don't count towards the max 8 heroes limit.)

Oh, so you want to lower the 8 heroes limit? Via map editor? Just put some heroes on an island.

Yes already done in Era scripts. we also have warfare SS (Ballistics Artillery and Fist Aid combined)

Okaaay, besides ERA scripts is there some other way to do it though?
Combining some/all of the war machine skills have crossed my mind before...

I am not versed with map editor but if it is in prison can you still dismiss it?

Well that's an easy answer, it might be hard to remember that if you really want to buy an extra hero though.

If it is hard to remember then the effort required to dismiss it should remind it.
By the way I dont usually dismiss heroes they require money and 1 army

I don't know why 5 or 6 limited heroes. We waited and hoped that AI hires 8 heroes or more, if AI uses hidden heroes in towns. Because you've seen twitch players use a lot of heroes, for example. Today we've ERA mod  plus Difficulty Mod (by RerryR) gives to all heroes gain +/- 15 PS at the beginning of the week, and then AIs get/grow 7pcs 1lvl creatures in every day, and 1pcs +7lvl creatures in maximum Insane lvl. It after AIs get troops from their towns or neutral joined to AIs. Remember that Arena, etc means more than 15 PS. I saw high PS, but I don't always followed in Tavern. So only 1 hero or many heroes, but opponent AI must have a human style. When you use minor troops or maximum troops, you get a training course!
Ok Phoenix4ever, ERA has death ERA script, when you beat the hero, hero never returns to the game, thus your main heroes or scouts aren't allowed to loss. Why? You hire a hero can be over 20lvl, Earth*, etc is a wrong thought. So combined death ERA script and ERA mods are awesome! Install Launcher, so you've WoG/ERA, HotA and MoP in one package..
*AIs use always Earth in Human AI mod or AI dismisses poor SS hero..

I write here, because if someone interested, etc Ok, I don't know about ERA plus, but it added on Forge. Launcher is also not the whole MODs, but Launcher for noob. I'm a noob. RerryR would be recommend a Launcher to you, or esp. Phoenix4ever. Launcher has in about 4000 members who cannot install ERA, for example. Launcher members on discord too, in there you can show your hopes, but if you know how to install MODs, so you can't use a Launcher, because some MOD can't work on Launcher. https://heroes3wog.net/heroes-3-launcher-download/ I think you can install Launcher, when minimal bugs. Remember report a bug.

As far as scripts go the Launcher version has the original WoG scripts and the ERA scripts. It also has a bunch of mods prepackaged into it, like GEM, Advanced Classes and New Spells mod.

What I need is wog+cove, is it available into that? It seems like just an installer for both era and hota, but it doesn't put them together.

The closest thing to what you need is probably the Legacy of the Silence mod, that adds 13 new towns including Cove, and is build on Era. I haven't tried it yet, so don't know if it implements everything from HotA, but I highly doubt it. Also very few of the other towns are as high quality as Cove.
If what you're looking for is that the official HotA gets Era support, that will likely never happen. If you just want to play with Cove town and other WoG options, your best bet so far seems to be between Legacy of the Silence, or an incomplete VCMI that has it's own ported version of HotA.
