When will enemy get out of the castle?
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering exactly when enemy will get out of castle during a siege?
- From my experience, there is a first case that will happen is that they won't come out when there is a dead body in front of the gate and our catapult is destroyed (so that the wall won't be breached). This is 100% correct, right? And btw, it has to be our troop's dead body, right?
- Is there any other case?
I recall there is some other case involving the enemy shooters being still alive, but I don't remember all the details.
Please help me list all the cases, thank you in advance

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm asking about Heroes 3
(Somehow, the forum's password for the homepage and the reply section are different. I can only remember the password for the reply section, so I can't edit the original post...)

Enemies won't come out if you block the door, if they can't fly and garrison hero doesn't have Teleport at a certain level, I believe Expert, that let's teleport over the walls. It's a physical impossibility.
Any body on the hex will block the door from moving, only if walker coming out dies there then the door is open and will remain open till it's removed.

Oh, that's of course the most basic case too.
I'm asking about more advanced techniques, like the case about shooters.
I remember hearing someone talk about enemy shooters being alive while ours have died etc... The complete details I'm not sure though.

To be more specific, this is what I remember someone discussing about a strategy for sieging:
- First, block the door with some of our units, as usual
- Keep their shooters alive (don't kill them!)
- Our shooters are allowed to be dead (that's the point. The AI will think that we now have no chance to win, so ALL their troops, even the flying ones, stay inside)
- Wait until the enemy is out of mana
- Then it's our time to shine
Something along this line. I might be totally wrong though, so please correct me.

This is the main reason to pick ballistics on the main hero, since you gain the ability to skip turns with your catapult. I know it's weird but it works. Especially against fortress.
Aside from breached walls, AI opponents will also leave the castle if they think you have the ranged advantage. I don't know the exact math here.

And here I've been using meteor shower on my own catapult for years.
As for my own observation it seems to be a mix of ranged superiority, magic superiority, and if they feel in danger from you (fliers/ranged) or if they can attack you that turn.

Good idea, I never thought of that. After all, I don't always have Ballistics.
