Poll Question:
One choice: Slow or Haste

If the map gives you two options: Slow and Haste, which one do you choose? Ok it's realized in WoG/ERA. But imagination or special map, for example.. I can say you shortly that you choose which portal, and you can get to scroll..

It depends a lot. The more melee oriented my army is the more I tend to Haste but without further information, I voted Slow.

Slow gives your ranged units more time to weaken the enemy.
Slow can be resisted unlike Haste though.

I voted for Slow, but both are OP as level 1 spells.
I also don't like how they counter each other, they should just cancel each other. (Same with Bless and Curse.)

They're obviously both great, and while I think the other one is slightly above the other, it's an intresting poll nonetheless.

Intrestinly, I think Haste wins both basic and advanced level categories. Usually having one creature moving fast is enough, and Slow feels kinda budget, way less rare Blind in comparision. Obviously, even here Slow is really useful spell.

However, I think the Expert level really turns the tables. Whereas the player vs. player battles can basically end after gaining a turn and simply casting Haste will drain the air out of your enemy. Expert Haste is also the game's most common answer against variety types of shooters, who don't posses nearly as mass threat if fougth on melee combat.

It's just that most of the game's enemies are melee fighters. Haste let's the player to gain the initiate, but striking first doesn't mean the other stack gets wiped and they can retalite, which will likely cause losses. And here it is where the Slow pulls ahead. If the enemies move slowly, the player has more time inflicting damage with ranged attacks and spells. Additionally, slow enemies become very vulnerably for kiting, and can sometimes be just baited to follow a troop they cannot catch, resulting for even more damage with no real threat for your troops. Whereas Haste can occasionally lead for swift victory, there are way more battles where taking your time will be the key for profitable victory.

Haste is an ultimate answer against some fights, but there are way more fights where Slow is the key to victory. So, in my books, Slow is the clear winner.

Out of reality polls, 25 years that we already know the answer.

There are heroes increasing speed
Artifacts increasing speed
Terrains increasing speed
Genies casing speed buffs
Prayer

So, slow, wtf.

I'm too lazy to go back 25 years to re-read it, so it's fine to ask this again

No, it depends a lot on the mapmaker. Examples Dejavu Dreality (SoD) map by I, Ghost and Chinese legendary Aeris Quamarine.. When I created the map, and Aeris edited the map.. Aeris' Teleport or Prayer options.. So at the beginning you can play Teleport, and in the endgame Prayer, if you choose Prayer, you can't play the beginning without existing Teleport.. Hmm another what? If the last boss with level 7-10 creatures are Slow immune, esp. in the WoG/ERA map.. I'm not designer of traps to players.. Now's 7 Slow voters vs 1 Haste voter.. Is who wants to say Haste? I haven't voted yet.. But this thread gives enlightenment to other players, what I always do so.. Discussion is a different matter!
