You finish zone by zone while keeping the rest of the map empty? I usually go for the general layout first and only after pay attention to the detail.

I would like to see your maps, did you make a thread?

Another thing, in this particular map, as it is SO BIG, I do have to edit almost everything as I go putting them.. the creatures, the artifacs, the whole Heroes, the towns.. etc
Because later on I get lost with so much stuff

PS:
Current process of the map is 35%
I'm around 30hs in.

I don't know when, but I will rest for a while, when I get tired.

I kept working for some more hours.

I've noticed a few things that look awesome to play with, for example, I just realized I can select what artifacts the merchants sale, to add to the economy, and make merchants unique.

Also, I tried adding Messages to the creatures you encounter on the Adventure Map, I liked a lot for adding to the lore of the world. So I will do some of those.

This are the main chunks I've worked on these days

This is going to be the final scene.
It is the Dragon Master's Sanctuary

Hi, Luas.

Here are my published maps. https://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes3/maps.php?keywords=bloodsu&type=&size=&difficulty=&humans=0&teams=0&players=0&sort=5
Only "The Red Tent" is really designed in the Editor, some others are based on regular templates but the majority were created based on my own HotA unequal templates. I had another handmade map almost finished when HotA 1.7.1 come out with this new rule of "no developed heroes in Tavern". It completely screw it cause, as all my maps, it uses separated heroes polls for human player and AI and the AI one is very small, so they rehire the heroes that have trained elsewhere.
If you want to see it I can send you a copy.

Cheers

P.S. None of these maps works with the newer versions of HotA and up till recently I hadn't found a way to make them work. I guess with the new capacity to give movement trough Events and Pandora Boxes some can be recovered but I didn't tried it yet.

I want to see The Red Tent.
I never created templates, but i like the idea. Would also like if you talk me more about what you did with them, because seeing in the editor I wouldn't know what is template and what is yours.

Dude... that "no developed Heroes in Tavern" rule...

Thankfully I won't allow Taverns in Dragon Master, you start with 4 Heroes, and have Prisions and Hero Camps spread through the world, I don't want generic characters.
But
I am worried.. because Bots tend to surrender from battles, and would lose the Hero and all his Artifacts.
That would ruin part of it's magic.

What did you do that can't be translated to 1.7.1?

This version of HotA has added new stuff to the Map Editor.

I made maps that taught how to abuse the Tavern.InviteHero feature from HD Mod to give heroes quasi infinite movement. I try not to give myself so much self-importance as to think they were the only reason why they created the new rule but...

I don't think it has anything to do, they could just put a cap to that.

I think it must have something to do with Tournament Rules, for the HotA tournaments out there.. After all, they are the main money supporters to this community that keeps it alive, because it also does publicity.

Just to be clear: I don't bash HotA team for trashing my maps. They were exploiting what was clearly a "bug" and while I think they were legit, bugs must be corrected.
I still think we are worst with the rule but then... I couldn't be more biased.

I did not think you were bashing them.

I really dislike what they did with this tavern thing.
So my opinion is that, it is an important change.. so, it wouldn't hurt if it had an "on/off" switch on the Map Editor. I wouldn't mind that.

By the way.. I just opened your The Red Tent man.
My first impression was like "Holy Jesus!"

I don't get by seeing it, how it is to play it.
Can you describe me what's the idea of the map?

Looking for the perfect Sanctuary, any suggestions?

And this is more worked version

And it has more zones. Prior to the Dragon Master Sanctuary. I have projected this one, wich is something of Heaven & Hell. And prior to that one, there is another zone wich will be the Purgatory, or maybe the Limbo.

I did continue that part, mostly Hell.

But I think that's the end of this chapter of my campaign.

I spent 12 days on this map, I gave something around 40 hours, and, coincidentially, I'm about 40% work done.
So this map will take 100 hours to make.
At that point I'll call it finnished.
But I have more plans.
After the World Map is finnished, I pretend to edit the game (TXT and a bit of Hex): the creatures, towns, spells, hero starting status, secondary skills, and a few other smaller things.

Thank you for your interest on my map, you who read this thread. You also give me energy to keep pursuing the crafting of the perfect Heroes 3 Map.

This are the Factions (at current version) that will compete for fighting against Drakka, the most powerful Hero that is waiting in his sacred sanctuary.
(All heroes are already edited in the Map Editor: stats, skills, creatures, spells, artifacts...)

Hi Juas,

In the end I reserved some time this weekend to play through your map ‘Land in Sight!’ and I wanted to give you a quick feedback.

I played red (Castle) on 160% difficulty.

First of all, the map looked just as beautiful as I had expected after looking at the screenshots. Every biome was worked out beautifully and every visitable object seemd placed intentionally where it stood. Also the variety of biomes and the fact that you didn’t cram a lot of copies of one and the same object in the same corner (one thing that I find incredibly ugly in maps and which many mapmakers seem to like) was very welcome.

The difficulty of the map was very easy. I basically started with my starting army, bought the troops from the starting town, upgraded my archers and then went on to conquer the map without ever having to replenish troops at home with my main army (which gives it an adventure and discover feel which I actually really appreciate). The second I found the prison with Vokial at the start of the second week, I knew the game was basically over. 27 Vampire Lords with a nicely developed hero with Animate Dead were just too much for the two AI factions. Especially after bringing him another 12 Vampire Lords from the external Estate which I upgraded in one of the Hill Forts. At the end I had three main armies (the starting army with some nice joiners, Vokial, a hero with all the troops from my starting town from the start of week four including Archangels) to mop up the remaining towns and heroes.

I think that most of the wandering creatures should be a lot stronger and maybe also give the AI a weekly bonus of some sorts. Oh, and I had two heroes going fishing in the sea which gave me a ton of gold, resources and artifacts (including a Royal Armor of Nix from a shipwreck survivor (maybe handpick which artifacts they give) which I didn’t even pass on to one of my main heroes in the end) so that I was never short on building materials which made me have the Portal of Glory by the end of week two.

And here a couple of minor things I found:
- The black two way monolith in the southern underground doesn’t seem to have a counterpart.
- Some minor grammar mistakes in some texts which aren’t really a problem because everything is perfectly understandable anyway.

Anyway, all in all a very nice job which I appreciated. Your map gave me a couple of fun hours and that is what counts in the end.

Thank you for making it,
FdgK

Hi Juas

Hello
Thanks for playing it
That's a shame that the difficulty is low for that faction, and probably in general, I don't know, I didn't have it that easy at all..

It's a shame because I just sended it to Maps4Heroes xD

I explain a pair of things:
Land in Sight is all randoms, so that Nix armor was luck, I got the wings.

The new map I am doing, Dragon Master, is ABSOLUTELY everything handcrafted. With some selected randoms that I believe will add, the most important I would say that, I manually pick the chances of every creature of joining or battling you, and if they charge gold or go for the glory

No worries, I still enjoyed it as a nice and easy little adventure. And the difficulty is something that can be fixed/played without too big of an effort. And don’t worry about maps4heroes. Whenever you have an update, just send it and they will update it for you on their page.

Maybe I was lucky because I had 20 swordsmen join me very early in the game but I think once you find Vokial (as red) you are almost certainly going to win.

When you have time again, try the other factions, they are fun as well, different point of view. I particullary enjoy a lot the Pirates.

I'll share the link of the final version when Maps4heroes uploads it.

Hello

I had some time to continue.
There have been some big upgrades on my map design skills.
I am putting lots of events and dialogs, making the Dragon Master's world feel very alive, as I try to make everything in a tematic way, full of tiny details, putting names and bits of lore to the zones, little adventures on every corner of the islands.

Also, everything that can be modified, I do incourse on that, I am forcing ALL of the Map Editor's capacity. This Map is going to be a huge and special one, stay tuned.

Here are a few screens I took.

"Forgotten Dragon Realm"

"Enlightened Grounds"

"Cyclops Brutal Territory"

And here some notes I am taking:

Oh, yes, I put Docent in the world, my tribute, I hope he is seeing from above.

"The Demonic Pact"

"The Saints"

"The Warlords"

"The Treasure Hunters"

"The Wishmasters"

"The Magic Council"

"The Corrupted Adepts"
