Revised opinion of Heroes 4
I am curious if there are many Heroes players, like me, that have revised their early opinions of HOMM4. (Either up or down).
Initially, I really detested the game. I guess I was looking for a beefed up version of HOMM3 and was shocked by the revised graphics and gameplay. As usual, I went off the deep end and made my first idiotic post after playing the game for just a few hours.
Well, my son convinced me to give it a second chance, I did, and now I am hooked. Even though I am still having trouble figuring out the whole heroes advancement system and there are several minor things that still annoy me, such as who came up with lite-gold selection ring vs the gold ring? Isn't any body else having trouble telling what or who has been selected?
I have noticed that there are far fewer rants posted lately so I guess those players have either moved on or maybe they are like me, eating their words....

Glad to see the world has one fewer Heroes 4 whiners!
Heroes4 is a great game despite the poor AI and some other little problems. I find it just as addictive as previous games in the series.
Good job NWC!!!

Count me in as well.
I think it is far better than the previous heroes game.
The battles with the computer are far more intense and challenging that before.
I admit the AI on the adventure map is a bit clueless. Hopefully the patch should sort that out.
Multiplayer should be incredible.

Yeah, I think right now, w/out MP, H4 is much worse than H3... but once Multiplayer comes, I think that may change.

Nope, we´ve just given up on that insult of a Heroes sequel and moved on to other games. It´s not that we didn´t want to like it, but if you´ve gotten somewhat deeper into H3, you see that the conception of H4 is a failure. Scouts are effective and cost no more than 20-30gp, Citadel+Castle are uneffective and cost 15000gp and quite some resources, and the atmosphere of turning some empty space into a huge fortress, with long and expensive ways to build for a Capitol, a level 5 mage guild and a level 7 creature upgrade, is lost.

Each time I start playing a new game, I am very disappointed. I though Homm2 was a lot better than homm3 for at least a month, but of course, that changed.
It is difficult to say if homm4 is BETTER, but is is indeed a very good game. What I really like is that is is NOT only a beefed up version of homm3, but that there are so many changes that you have to 'discover' the game again.
The change that affect my gameplay most, is that artifacts rarely affect the creatures, but only the hero. So in homm4, u have one ekstra strong creature (which is your hero) that get tougher and tougher, but even if u have a level 20 hero, your creatures/monsters are just as strong as when you started. (I know that some skills and artifacts affect all creatures, but it's still not like in homm3, when a level 20 hero with some artifacts could kill an angel with 2 minotaurs).
Conclusion: Homm4 is a very good game!

I also had high expectations of HOMM 4 as i have been a addictive player of HOMM 3 for 2 years. At first i had mixed feelings about the game as all of my strategies i had developed for HIOMM 3 had to be revised. Right now i am completely hooked upon the game and i have no social life anymore for i spent every fre ehour playing. I just love HOMM 4 and can't wait for the multiplayer patch (AND 3D0, WHERE IS THE EUROPEAN PATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!)

i don't know why but H4 just doesn't feel as addictive as H3 for me. Maybe my computer's too slow so the movement is blocky, and the game slows down after a couple of hours so i have to restart my computer. by that stage, i just can't be bothered and quit.

God_Boy the same thing happens on mine but not only that it also has a habit of just crashing out back to windows when its the comps turn and gives no reason for it. Whats annoying too is that if i try and just quit the game it crashes my computer, what i have to do is ALT TAB then shut it down that way. Buggy in the extreme
But i still find myself playing it

I can't even force myself to play it anymore...
And I had such high hopes for this one...
I cling to this straw of hope, though; someone (wise) said that this could be like with HOMMI: a great game, but very unfinished, and with a lot of unrealized potential. Back then, noone had previous games to compare it with, and were happy with what they had, and then thrilled by the sequels.
So maybe HOMMV and VI will be to IV what II and III were to I? If so, then all could be well.
Develop well

Helloo!
The game is getting better every time I play it.
Had the EU version, upgraded to US version + the patch + nocd crack. I read the list where they named all that was fixed, much by the way, and I would assume the game will be much more addictive now...... almost afraid of starting to play it.

I never whined from day one(phew!), not about the gameplay anyway.
Had a whine about the game being sub standard, as far as no MP or Random map generator(while I'm at it, no manual or game update either).
The game itself, other than totaly poor AI, is excellent!
With the right patching this game will outplay all the other HOMM games in the end IMHO.
The tactics in this game are far better than the games of old.
Don't get me wrong HOMM3 will always be one of my all time favorite games but HOMM4 is very much like, and yet unlike the other HOMM series.
I for one am glad it's not just a spit and polish of HOMM3!
Time for a change!
Bring on MP.........
