yes ive reached the shipyard a few times myself but i think its the wrong way to go, as you cant kill all the pirates on the island with just cents and berserkers. Killing shipyard first uses up to much men, unless u want to wait a year or two.
The way to do it has to be get the nomads, and build an army of them. Money is a problem since u get none. So you probably have to fight for the waterwheel.

Yes but the longer you wait the more there will be don't forget.
I only lost 54 Berserkers to gain access to the shipyard anyway.
As far as gold you can trade with the marketplace.

Gold is not the problem, since you have wood and ore and can always trade it. I am not able to kill the nomads, no matter if I fight them on day 5 or day 500. If you get to the island without lvl2 creatures you will simply get slaughtered. Maybe there is a way to find more potions.

RE: Might Campaign on Champion Sett:
I believe it can be done, but not by killing the nomads. They simply cannot be killed regardless of day or luck with potions.
I came close to getting the pirates on the isle (early month 3) but really needed a resupply. However, stupid month of the cyclops dumped a group in my centaur alcove and that was that.
There is no money problems. The skeletons are mobile and if you spend a couple days by them, you will be able to run in and get the bag of gold artifact from the skeleton (adventure item not the monster) lying next to the potion cart. You can also get the potions without fighting as well (of course).
I've tried it a few times on Champ only cos everyone here said it couldn't be done (campaigns bore me senseless - want human opponents...). Nomads slaughtered me first two, but third time was close to success (by forgetting about nomads altogether).
Critical factors to me come down to luck. You need some luck with the potions from behind skeleton - Cloud of Despair and Acid Potion make a great combo with hopefully a third good one as well - all saved for the pirate isle fight.
My path: If immediately trade resources and get the beserks, then go down and get your free centaurs heading staright for the centaur alcove. You split to have 4 single beserks as well (3 in front with your main beserks on end, get your Hero to soak an attack or two as well) and you can beat the centaurs in the alcove with negligible losses (i lost 5 beserks and 1 centaur). Then get your potions and see if they suck or not. If good continue, else dun bother. Then get the rest of your free crap + mines and go wait in the alcove. New monsters from the months don't seem to appear anywhere but the alcove (but could be wrong). Anyway, if I'm right, then that way you prevent new monsters which is a pain and cost me my game.
This Hero is useless as tits on a bull so dun bother killing anything else as there's no point giving him XP or anything on offer (you need EVERY man alive that you can). Towards the end of month 2 seemed to me a good time to attack the ever growing shipyard pirates but I guess it's upto your own insticts. I again used all slots, but with 2 individual centaurs (for removing retribution) and 2 beserks. I used the despair potion on the worse positioned pirated, and with some careful use of tactics + Hero (who can soak a couple attacks if careful), was able to kill group losing no centaurs (critical) and only about half the beserks (I think I had around 140 & lost 50ish but can't remember exactly). I feel I didn't really need to use the potion, and if I coulda gone back for another reload of troops (i.e. no bad luck with monster of the month), there was enough left to just kill that group on the isle down to the wire (if potions were saved). Killing them gives you the cart and hence the city and hence the game. However, I believe you can try wait years if you like, you'll never beat the rate of growth with just 4 level 1 dwellings total.
By the way, there's a chest in the water which could potentially give you an artifact instead. I don't know if the designers can (or did) rig it to give gold only (i got 2k), but there are a number of artifacts that would completely change the isle battle to be a guaranteed win (losses are irrelevent except the Hero of course). Downside is that you'd have to play for nearly 30 minutes before you can see what's in the chest. ack.
I can't handle the concept that something's unbeatable (stupid or bizarre homemade scenarios aside - plenty of them about...).
Off to give this tard map another crack before sleep...

Quote: Interesting how you guys brag about how easy impossible is, and then don't answer when Spiderboy asks how...
So, all of you playing impossible difficulty blindfolded, bound and gagged, answer this question, both to enlighten us poor souls and to prove your words.
So are there any (wo)men for their words out there?
Brag well
DonGio
Well I hate to brag but here is the solution.
I attacked on Day(7) Week(3) Month(2) with 123 Berserkers and 116 Centaurs against 476 Pirates and 238 Bandits.
Won the battle with 78 Centaurs left.
I used Cloud of Despair on the pirates and Potion of Cold on hero.
Slots were:
1. 123 Berserkers
2. Waerjak
3. 1 Centaur
4. 112 Centaurs
5. 1 Centaur
6. 1 Centaur
7. 1 Centaur
As for how to play out the battle, it's called skill(and some luck)!
Is this proof enough Drongo?(Aussie slang lol)

Very impressive Sir_Elric.
I have also managed to finish this map on champion, but it took me nearly twice as long.
The key is definitely in the potions you find in the carts.
Also placing single stacks of centaur in front to take the retriubtion damage.
It is a very hard map on champion, and I think that the way the difficulty is set should be looked at.
ie, the idea of different levels for ai, resources and wandering creature stacks is a good idea.
Are you from Aus sir_elric??

From Perth, yes the potions are the key there is no doubt about that. Cloud of despair is very handy as was the Potion of Cold I mananged to freeze a stack for a couple of turns and gave em' a good floggin whist they looked back at me through the ice lol.

Incidentally, I'm from Melbourne too.
There's a way to do it on champion without potions.
But just to change something I said before, the freebie artifact you get is a random treasure, not a bag of gold (I got the bag on my first three attempts - assumed it was fixed).
Took me 6 more tries last night, getting jipped on dodgy potions every single damn time. However, I finally beat the stupid tard of a map. I got arrows of stunning from the skeleton and potions of toughness (useless) and blinding smoke. Use the potion of blinding smoke to help take out the centaurs at the top and got a ring of strength from that skeleton and with the xp, archery. From killing the pirates got advanced attack and with the arrows of stunning (great damn item) was enough of an edge to take out the isle in first week of month 3.
I then quit, turned it off, and vowed never to play another stupid campaign...

Now, Sir Elric (notice how I don't screw around with your name), I believe you.
You should understand, though, that this is frustrating:
Playing a campaign many times, not being able to complete it.
Coming to HC, voicing your troubles, asking for help.
All the replies are "Oh my God, you can't even do that?!? Oh man, I could do that in my sleep!" or "Champion is the only level, and even that is pathetically easy!"
If you have done it (like you obviously have now), feel free to brag about it as much as you want (in my opinion, you've earned that right), but don't go around saying "I could do that, but I won't, cause it's so easy and boring." That's disrespectful and mean.
I was simply trying to speak out on behalf of the underdogs, because I thought that the replies given were childish, uninformative and condescending. Now, notice how you proved that you could do it (it seems it took a little effort, however), while others kept their traps shut or tried to excuse their earlier statements.
Reply well

Sure but please note "again" that my response of "Impossible level is the "only" level if you ask me!" was directed to another poster who reffered to impossible level as no fun, not Arachnid!
I, as probably most players, would find anything but the impossible level very boring indeed.
I'm glad someone threw down the gauntlet to do this map on impossible as I like a challenge and there is always a way to do it, eventually.
True it's not easy and frankly a tad boring waiting for troops to build up but once you have the keymasters tent then the game can be finished(not that I did, lol, just wanted to prove a point).
Anyways it's done now.
Anyone else got a map they can't get through send them to me heh heh!
well you said I could brag now, didn't you?
Sorry for messing with your name by the way, it was late!

From Canberra. :-) Hi.
I don't quite get impossible difficulty. Since there are a variety of tastes, I guess it's good that it's around - but in H4 the variation in stack size is so steep, I'm not planning on playing on anything too high! Currently struggling on Order (Emilia) 1 at Advanced difficulty - and I reckon that's the setting I'll keep. *If* I can get anywhere with it, of course...

I won the map on Champion difficulty as well. Of course, I was lucky with artifacts - not as lucky as to get Potion of Immortality, but Ring of Health, Potion of Cold and Bag of Gold were good enough. I have written a more fdetailed info at http://www.forumplanet.com/strategyplanet/homm/topic.asp?fid=3653&tid=687516 , but the high points: Centaurs guarding skeleton beaten on day 2, shipyard captured on day 8, Pirate Tom destroyed on day 3 week 1 month 3 with about 120 berserkers and 75 centaurs (63 centaurs left). Total campaign score 4930. I have a savegame at the very beginning of the map, which I could provide to somebody to test my claims. And I have saves after (and sometimes before) every major fight, too.

I believe that champion difficulty makes SOME things easier, as the larger nuetral armies slow down the computer players, if not stop them alltogether. I tried the map on the easiest setting, and blue was knocking on my gate almost as soon as I took the castle, which was much sooner than month 3.
