Just a summary of this thread and some points that some people are confused about (all of those facts are verified, so please, stop tossing stuff you don't know, especially when someone has posted a correction earlier):
1) Pit lords resurrect 50 hit points per pit lord, the number of HPs is averaged down, so 8 or less imps will not get you 1 demon (8*4 < 35). Also, the number of demons can not be higher than the number of resurrected creatures. 1 AA = 1 demon.
2) Pit lords can only resurrect LIVING creatures. Golems, gargs, elementals and especially the UNDEAD are NOT living
3) Pit lords are NOT #1 AI priority. Sometimes for ranged attackers and non-retaliation units they are because of their high damage and low hp. However, the rest of the critters always go for the most damage/least retaliation. Your pit lords are quite often the weakest stack since efreets, devils and hordes of demons are stronger. And if you bring too little fodder, it won't be significant enough for the AI to consider it a target. Also, if you bring any gogs or any other considerable-sized archer stack that will NOT be placed adjacent to the pit lords, the AI non-retal and ranged units will attack them. If you bring the right fodder to the fight, you will never lose a single pit lord.
4) Inferno has a decent chance to get armageddon, as it is one of the 3 towns that can get it (4 with conflux), however, Dungeon has 2x Inferno's chance to get it (I've heard some people saying that inferno has the highest chance).
5) UNVERIFIED: +health items will influence the demon raising. Can anyone verify this? And if it does - then how does it work? (Since demons have more health too, so, will it take more than 35 hit points to raise one?)
As for me - I only play random maps where double build, especially with the poor and expensive inferno is quite often impossible. So, for me it is the weakest and the most underpowered town.

Yes if ur opponent doesnt know anything else than castle it is. But here's a strange thought: do something different for a change and BOTH take inferno.

I don't consider Inferno a weak race at all...you can easily overpower any enemy with them. The Archdevils have No Enemy Retaliation, so if you are afraid they are too weak at 200 hp, 30-40 dmg, you wait one turn, and when it comes their turn again WHAM, u strike and run back or go for another strike that will totally decimate that unit stack. The only units that i fear are the Archangels because of the "burning with hatred strike" which totally decimates the Archdevils if they have the first strike on them, but if archdevils strike first, the archangels are goners, get speed artifacts, there is one that gives you +2 and two that give you +1. Also the cerberi have no enemy retaliation and multiple strike, get expert tactics, haste them and send them to his ranged units or in the middle where units are tightly packed and you get to strike two of them at once, this also devastates his ranks, getting leadership would give you a chance to strike twice. The magogs also do a lot of splash dmg, and in high numbers they are stronger than liches but beware, they kill your own units too. Demons pretty much suck, no special ability but you can get huge numbers with demon farming, after i place Deity of Fire, the grail that is i get scores of imps, from castle growth and from diplomacy, guess what I am going to do with those Imps. I sometimes use efreet sultans in suicidal attacks against ranged or 7th level units, but only if I have resurrection. Its not as much the initial attack as it is the fire shield that activates upon retaliation which kills sometimes more than the efreet sultans themselves, i wish I would know the ratio to that. Having efreet sultans and maybe energy elementals and Phoenixes on a hero with expert fire magic and expert sorcery and having armageddon in the spell book or tome of fire magic you could take down heroes with larger armies than you, the phoenix are not as much useful for the fire immunity as they are for the speed they have making sure that you will be the first one to strike. For a late game, having several inferno towns and castle i would always go for an inferno if I could choose from any town, even if you dont have expert earth magic and town portal at expert level, you only need to cast it near your closest inferno town and after that you get to use the castle gate, which btw, does not consume any movement points like TP does so you can take infinite visits to any town, it is very useful in the first day of the week when you can gather on one hero all of your troops faster than any other town, combine that with a hero like Gunnar or Dessa and you will finish an XL map in about 3 months with the grail found. I usually play when Inferno with a Logistics hero and Ayden or Zydar as a secondary hero.
